Staff review by
Five years and one drummer change later, Intronaut have followed up the tour de force that was The Direction Of Last Things, and despite the turbulence they've had to navigate in the intervening years, they remain every bit the powerhouse they previously were.

Haven't really been interested by these guys since Valley Of Smoke but the first track has me optimistic that they are really going for something special on this album.

It's not quite at the level of the last couple based on first listens, but the last 3 songs in particular are really standing out

I haven't heard their work in a really long time, but this sounds really different to anything they've wrote. Either way, really enjoying this.

Getting better with each listen. That YouTube video of Rudinger playing Cubensis is most enjoyable.

This is so weirdly familiar but different considering their discography.

The typical background relaxation vibes are as strong as ever, alongside the underlying upbeat aggression and unorthodox technical songwriting. A mild infusion of catchy melodies to contrast the straightforward riff-centric moments helps with balancing between variously opposed elements, though it lacks that immediate catch and hook some of their earlier works had. Maybe I need to spend more time with this or maybe I'm just not that impressed with it overall, but it's a strong album regardless and should impress anyone with even a passing interesting in post-metal or prog.

It's solid, and even with my lowered expectations, I was still somehow hoping for more.
I have no memory of this place.
