Oceans Of Slumber have taken their music in a more grandiose and spectacular direction, and with it comes things both good and not quite so good.

Overall almost on par with banished heart, but lacking super strong tracks like no color, no light (which is like a "doom power ballad" on par with death come near me IMO) -- so I rate this lower. I find the heavier parts better on this, but I'm not a huge fan of their heavier stuff in general so that doesn't give many plus points.
I wish they'd use guest vocals for male growls just as they do for male soft vocals, because it's one of the more lacking aspects of their heavier parts. It's not bad it just pales with cammies vocals. Maybe she is too good??

This is the first time that I really got into their music. What a journey. The singer's obviously amazing but the rest of the band is doing a great job, too. I especially like the drum work, it sets the tone perfectly.

Oceans of slumber is a great example of overdrumming the songs. Music is really good, singer is exceptional... but drums are really killing the sound and doing fills constantly regardless of what the song is asking for.

Kind of meh. I'd definitely prefer Winter and the Banished Heart over this, on account of filler. Vocals and drums are killer though.

I liked the second and third albums quite a bit. But this new album has made me an official fan! The vocalist's performance is stronger than ever before in my opinion and so are the riffs and the traditional death metal vocals. I think the emotions are very fitting for this time and place in the US. Superficially the album cover is also awesome, but I don't judge an album by its cover. It just happens to be on par with the music.

Songs on previous albums have been hit and miss for me, but this has a strong songwriting throughout. The harsh vocals are so much better than on previous albums, which were way to loud and in your face. Yet, this album could loose some fat, at over an hour of run time.

Finally a great band to fill the void left by the departure of Opeth from their excellent extreme sound to succumb to extreme-to-sleeprog syndrom which many bands have been suffering from for the last 5 years or more. Cammie is one of the most outstanding singers in metal nowadays, her hauntingly dramatic and soully powerful voice has granted her such a unique place among the best in the scene, though being so novice. I am simply obsessed with every single piece of this record; surely one of the best metal albums of the decade.

This album has some really good songs, in the begining, the end, a few in the middle. However the presence of some not so awesome songs interspersed here and there makes it a somewhat frictional listen. I didn't care for the harsh vocals at all. A number of bands have done stupendous job in complimenting soft feminine doom vocals with harsher vocals, sadly Oceans of Slumber is not one of them. The album stands on the near perfect voice of Cammie and the wonderful instruments that perfectly balance her singing, especially the piano interludes.
