Bad English
Tage Westerlund
Come back album for Vibeke Stene. Why she left metal ?
Why this is not revieved here?
Good gothic doom metal touch whit her harmonic vocals and some parts are more modern touch of death/doom metal whit male vocals, but Vibeke dominates here, killer piece.

Vibeke's vocals are as good as ever but the rest just sounds so generic and by the book. Plodding gothic/doom with no payoff throughout and to top it off the bland harsh vocals and violin parts doesn't help either.

^Pretty much my thoughts. Half of the songs feel like they weren't written having Vibeke's vocals in mind. The instrumental and the vocals feel disjointed. This is the most audible in the first 2 songs, but same can be said about songs 4 and 5. The only songs where some cohesiveness can be heard is on Remorseful Heart, Bryd, Meson (arguably the best song and where Vibeke shines most) and partly on Entirety.

The first half of the album is clearly heavier, more death metal than gothic/doom and does not fit Vibeke's singing. For the most part there is no synergy between the instrumental and her vocals. The second half is more in the vein of gothic/doom and fits her vocals the most. This is most exemplified in Meson. The slower parts in this song feel most akin to Tristania which is precisely why it is the best song. Another con is the rather amateur, poor use of violin.

This could have been worse admittedly. Asgeir is not a bad musician, but you can hear clearly in this album that he hails from the extreme metal scene. If he wants to continue collaborating with Vibeke, he needs to change his songwriting approach to fit her vocals.

I'm mixed on this album. The vocals are awesome, the melodies/riffs are good too, but they don't realy fit together. Asgeir needs to take a lesson from early Tristania concerning the interplay of extreme parts, soft parts and harsh and female vocals. Or maybe ditch the death/doom entirely and play a more ethereal kind of gothic/doom metal.

As strange as it sounds, the problem of this album is that it's too heavy.

However, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Some parts are pretty well done and enjoyable (the parts where there is no dissonance between Vibeke's vocals and the music). The heavy parts are great too, but they simply don't fit together with VIbeke's vocals. My opinion: must have album for Vibeke fans, but not as good for fans of doom or metal in general.

Straightforwardly, I didn't like it. I found the album shallow, it sounds linear on all tracks (except for Bryd, which for me was the only highlight, even so rather less impressive than anything I'd expect). There is no apex, neither on the vocal nor instrumental lines. When I got to the middle of the record I was already yawning, because Vibeke's constant murmuring style of singing along with the super generic riffs made me very sleepy lol. They have a lot of potential and that's why I'll wait for them to come up with a better disc, because this one didn't work for me.
