Best Akhenaten's album imo.
Old comment but I agree. I've loved this record for ages, I don't even remember when I first listened to it but it has a great soft, almost warm touch for a black metal album.

I think these days I actually listen to this album more than I do any Darkthrone album. Of course that's because I've played Darkthrone to death. Anyway, this album is awesome and that's that.

I like that it was suggested in similar topics on the Spiritualized D album thread...

Ya that's why I came here in the first place. You posted the video, I gave it a listen, commented... then noticed the similar topics mentioning Judas Iscariot. And I was like... o_O
The rest is history.

I don't get what's so especial about it. Repetetive drumming, forced vocals, sharp sound and average songwriting. The good news is that I actually could finish it.

From Hateful Visions is among my favorite BM songs EVAH. The main riff is so hard to describe, like sad and happy at the same time, pure perfection... The rest of the album is miles below, but not too shabby.
Been ages since I last listen to this, btw. Should check again.

Then again, are there any classic old school raw Darkthrone type albums you like? This is definitely one of the best for me, but differentiates itself by having a paradoxically warm feel about it somehow.

Not that I have tried many, but I have disliked all of these "old school raw Darkthrone type albums" including the darkthrone itself.

Shame. There's a lot of crap albums of that style but there's lots of great ones that have a great atmosphere that isn't replicated by any other style, black metal or otherwise.

I don't deny that. The problem is that I'd had to invest too much of time for finding something in this style that I actually like. I see people regard the darkthrone as one of the best bands in this school of black metal, and like I said I don't like them at all.Maybe I should check them again, though since it has been long since I listened to them.

I never listened to this one. Never would have thought you guys would have that much love for a Judas Iscariot album. I'm not indifferent to them, but still. Will check this as well.

The only one that's really grabbed me. Not that I've made much effort with the others.

The atmosphere is definitely what sets this apart from a lot of other black metal albums.

If Judas Iscariot had good production it wouldn't be Judas Iscariot. I'd say a crystal clear sound would detract heavily from the experience here. This is a great album indeed, although I may prefer "To Embrace The Corpses Bleeding", not sure though.

Oh, of course, I wouldn't change a single thing about the sound, this is raw black metal at its best. This album is still my favorite.
