Unbelievably weak. I'm almost glad that it was the first In Flames album I listened to, otherwise I'm sure that I would have been heart broken.

Not really sure why this album gets bad ratings, the album is nothing compared to their early works, but its got some pretty good songs... I'm a fan of it for sure.

Yeah... my bet is that not even the few who enjoy the recent In Flames liked this album.
Horrible to almost everyone...

And you who dislike this cd,you are not true In Flames fans! You suck!A sense of purpose fucks!

I'm surely not a true fan cause imo its a mediocre album, better than Soundtrack and R2R, but worse than their old stuff. It fucks... lol
But The chosen pessimist is a crime. This song deserves a fat 1*.

Obviously this album is terrible overall, but did anyone else notice that most of the songs had the same riff, but it was just played faster, slower, or backwards? Try to listen to it again, it's pretty funny once you pick up on that.
The album cover and lyrics are fucking stupid also.

I like this album after all, my favourite ones are Clayman and Colony, but I like it just because it is different...It does not have to be so heavy and screamy, especially the "singing parts" are very good, I dont see any reason why fuck up with this album...Yeah, I would like next album faster and heavier, but still, A Sense Of Purpose left in me good feelings.

After Clayman they sound like heavier Linkin Park! And you who dislike this cd,you are not true In Flames fans! You suck!A sense of purpose fucks!
First setence is completely true. In Flames have just turned into the new Linkin Park. About your second sentence, i just have to say: Listen to The Jester Race, YOU POSER! That wasn't even Gottemburg, it was True Melodic Death Metal, a genre which came from both Death and Black Metal, and was created by bands such as In Flames and At the Gates.

I've heard every album by this band... Not to mention a lot of other crappy shit from other crappy shit bands. But this album takes the cake for poopshit crap music.
There was no freakin effort even put into it. A SENSE OF PURPOSE FUCKS!(every metalhead in the ass with a large, spiky, splintery, wooden dildo)

There are growls in this album? Couldn't hear them over the sound of all the whining scream.

This album is very underrated.
I gave it a go one day, and seriously, it's not -bad- as people state it to be. "The Mirror's Truth" is one of the best (intro) songs I have listened to. And then "Disconnected", okay some lyrics in it are unnecessary, but still catchy. And then I find out, once again, one of the things that glues me to In Flames. Their ballads/slow paced songs, "The Chosen Pessimist" is an awesome song with awesome lyrics, and people complained about their lack of originality during the last albums?
After listening to all of In Flames albums, I got to say, I like them all (except Lunar Strain, Mikael Stanne just doesn't go with In Flames)
"A Sense of Purpose" is a road trying to drive us back, very slowly, to old days. In the end, a very good album

Despite this being their lowest rated album, I find this to be by far the best album of the "bad" era of In Flames.

Alias popped up while i was listening to my PS3 music (from about a year ago). It's a groovy tune, I like it a lot, too bad (from what I remember) the entire album is essentially the same riff.

Man I think there's some substance to that statement. To be honest there's some seriously nice riffs on the 2 songs I listened to (the first two) and if you ignore the cringe-worthy vocal work/lyrics it's actually not that bad.
Although I did only listen to 2 songs. Could be a shitfest later on

When I started to get into metal, I absolutely cherished this album. Tracks like Alias, I'm The Highway and Delight And Angers i think are really good. IMO their best album of the "New In Flames" era, on par with their latest effort.

I suppose I'm one of the few who really enjoy this album. It's no "The Jester Race," but I'd say it's probably their best since Colony.
