Admittedly, i do have a soft spot for Tarot, but i that this album is just way too long. at 75 minutes, i think the band loses its originality and talented songwriting in the latter half, making the first half seem much more accessible and with a stronger set of tunes. The consistent use of keyboards contribute brilliantly to the 'magical' effect given off by the songs themselves. However, Hietala's vocals here are what keeps the album from becoming monotonous. His input in nightwish hasn't really impressed me that much (he seems to be a third wheel in that band), but in tarot his vocal talent really seems to go far. Awesome band, good album. But just good.

I don't think that's a weak point on this record, infact I think two guitars + a keyboard in the front would have been too much (cake on cake). Marcos bass and Pecus drumming is so dominant that it already gives a strong rythm base. Also I checked out some live material from this era and it sounds great with only one guitar.

Overall this is a excellent record. Sure the 75 minute playtime is too much and some of the songs could have been in need of a trimming. I've listened to this record twice and some songs a lot more than that and really loving it. Possibly my favourite metal album from Finland.
