The first 2 tracks are more progressive than the previous albums however, the album then has a lot of ballads, almost half of the album. Not a bad thing as Jon Oliva is good at writing emotional and deep ballads, but might be an issue to some who are expect a prog heavy metal album like Savatage's "In The Hall Of The Mountain King".

Your post made me giggle. Who expects to hear Hall of the Mountain King when listening to Jon Oliva's Pain?! Ridiculous and naïve

Glad it made you giggle, however, doesn't "Through The Eyes Of The King" and its title remind you somehow of the aforementioned song? If you can't hear the similarity in every aspect then there's a problem And that's not the only Jon Oliva's Pain song that resembles a Savatage song.

The song you mention does sound like Savatage, what I found funny was the idea that someone buys a JOP album and expects a THOTMK sounding album or has such high expectations.

Obviously JOP sounds like Savatage, that's not what I was disagreeing...

I see, what I meant was that this album is softer overall compared to their previous one. I guess I should have wrote it that way
