I'll go out on a limb and say this is one of Anthrax's better albums, and probably one of the strongest 90s releases from an 80s thrash band. Anthrax go full groove metal on this release and manage to hit the sweet spot between White Zombie and Prong to great effect. Creating a niche in which they are able to draw inspiration from others yet establish their own sound, Stomp 442 is an overlooked gem by even fans of the band.

Well, this is not the complete shit I've been told... also not nu-metal as some exaggerated.

I kinda liked the groovy heavy metal in this album, it does not sound bad at all. In fact I prefer this one over Sound of White noise and even Persistence of Time (this last looked like a weak attemptive to remain thrash despite the apparent urge for change) for that matter.

Just don't get why Anthrax fans spit on Stomp 442 & Volume 8.

Mmmmm, let me see... because they are SHIT. Same level of shitness as Megadeth's Risk imo

But me "so?" was tdirected at the fact you mentioned Dimebag has a guest appearance on the album, as if that makes the album any less crap.

Surely would make the album of interest to Pantera fans?

Guess I just preferred Bush to Belladonna.

Blew my mind today to learn that that terrible artwork was made by the same guy who did many of Pink Floyd's album covers like "The Dark Side of the Moon."

Totally right, man! Every word. Disrepectfully under-rated.

Not necessarily a bad album but for me it's just so exhaustive. I mean, a lot of the songs seem to be too long for their own good and it kind of makes the instrumentation worse than it seems. The vocals though are my main problem with this album. They often sound tired and just end up roaring through the lyrics. There a few really good tracks to be found here though, my favourite being the last two songs, 'Tester' and 'Bare'. The former has a lot of good emotion pouring throughout and the closer is excellently written, ending the album on a somewhat interesting note.

This album was a serious letdown after the wonderful "Sound Of White Noise". It's not quite the endurance test that "Volume 8" is, but it's still a mostly average album, that only rarely offers up anything that stands up to anything on their previous album.
