So, apparently the AFL had to pay a fee to Warner Bros because the new AFL team will be called the Tasmanian Devils, just because WB thinks they own global copyright to the name of an animal

Quite fast after the release of their debut album, Lifelover returned with another piece of twisted sickness, this time entitled "Erotik". Before its release the band had announced that they had incorporated clean vocals and the fans where fearing that Lifelover would 'sell out' and take a less controversial musical direction.
This is by far my favorite Lifelover release. "I Love (To Hurt) You", "Besatt", and "Museum of Past Affections" are all amazing songs.
Hmmm hard for me to decide... Pulver was far more fucked up for me but there was this time I actually had Erotik in my cd-player while walking on town while it was quite dark.... Such an overwhelming atmosphere indeed. What can I say... wonderful band imo. Created their own niche in metal.

The horse isn't dead... it's fucking fossilised from the same tired joke.
Well, it is because they are musically extremely a lot like Coldplay. If they had played something different to Coldplay then the horse would be dead as can be and fossilized

Wouldn't call it DSBM tbh. In concept, lyrics and imagery: Yes. But not in music if you compare them to everything else in the genre.
You are probably right. DSBM isn't the style I'm very familiar with but I've seen this band described as such. Moreover, as you said, the imagery is there.

I don't get it you just posted the same song twice.
Seriously though, I think where Marcel is coming from stems from people referring to Lifelover as depressive black metal. Perhaps image-wise and in a smaller sense, music-wise, but they haven't ever been a purely black metal band. I could maybe get on board with them being called "the Coldplay of depressive black metal", but that's about it.

I've seen them called the "black metal version of Joy Division", which seems more accurate... I'm not familiar with Coldplay (maybe Marcel is ) , but comparing them to Lifelover sounds kinda ridiculous (or maybe just an easy way to criticize the band ).

That's far more accurate. Coldplay has nothing to do with Lifelover, it's a comparison I've never understood.

Do you listen to Britpop, Marcel? I feel like you don't, because if you did you'd know how ludicrous a comparison that is. The only commonalities between Lifelover and Britpop are the pop punk or shoegaze influence, but even then it's only a small portion of the band's sound.

I've been living in Sweden long enough to see that Lifelover have always been putting their twist on the depressive pop/rock sound found in Kent.
Marcel will obviously say that Kent sound totally like a swedish Coldplay but anyone who is actually familiar with their career as well as pop/rock will clearly see the differences and realise that Lifelover is basically Kent playing black metal. The lyrical concepts for example is far closer between these two bands than with Coldplay.

Musically they really are like your average Britpop band
In what way? Do you have a masters in musical theory? Can you defend your ridiculous allegations with, I don't know, evidence?! Other than shouting the same idiotic thing "britpop, coldplay, herpderp", how about you talk about the song structure, musical techniques, similar chord progressions and techniques in instrumentation? I'm not saying you need a masters in musical theory to judge music, I'm just saying you need to use evidence to back up objective statements that are so clearly disagreed with by the majority

This is exactly what I thought when listening to this! I've never heard Lifelover until now, but I've been a big fan of early Kent (pre-Du och Jag Döden), and I was just amazed how similar they are. Well, Lifelover's lyrics are a bit more cynical perhaps, but it's pretty similar in mood.
And I think that comparing Coldplay to these two bands is a bit of a stretch (I love Coldplay by the way), since Coldplay's melancholy is a bit fleeting, and beautiful in some poppish way, whereas Lifelover and Kent is, I don't know, a bit more... trve? What I mean to say is that there is always some light shining in in Coldplay, but it can be pitch-black here.

Glad to read I'm not alone in this one. Personally, I'm a huge Kent fan, more or less love all their shit. If you dig Erotik then it's safe to say you should give everything at least one chance. My personal favorite is Konkurs. It follows the same formula of Erotik but to me it's like they took all the elements from the previous album and made them even better. A lot of "dark rock/pop" there too.
