Lurker Of Chalice, a name that should ring a bell for the Black metallers out there. Two completely unavailable demos, one hard-to-get full-length. A full-length that cost many Black metaller a dear buck until it was finally re-released by Southern Lord. In my opinion, Lurker Of Chalice's self-titled, début and at the same time also final album was one of the few albums on e-bay that actually deserved to be sold for more than thirty quid/bucks???. Why? Let me tell you why.

28.05.2015 Too much of a fanboy? Probably...
Yet I still feel the obligation to remind our users that one of the modern classics of black metal has just turned a decade old.

It remains as unique and soul-draining as the very day it was released.
No happiness, no sadness, no fear, no hope... Pure emptiness.

Celebrate the void!

Rating: 10 Some of the best use of samples in metal.

Spectre As Valkerie Is. God, what a song that is. That droning riff and when he recites the poem from The Omen is cool shit.

Viva emptiness.

Rating: 10 Absolutely amazing, I never felt like this in my entire life. I gave this in the beginning an 8 but after listening seriously the whole album I regretted it and decided to give it the score it really deserves.

And the samples are godlike.

Religious-level adoration.

The crows... The Omen quote in the background... And that unsettling female voice. Those three moments will forever stay in my memory as some of the best uses of samples in music... Of any kind.
What a memorable album. Will take it to the grave.

Definitely. This album totally deserves a 10 year anniversary staff pick next year.

Rating: 9 I can't tell how much I enjoyed this album, everything is great about this album. I had heard only one song out of it which was This Blood Falls As Mortal, but now I listened to the whole album which was truly great.

I love this like nothing else in black metal:

Dima - 12.03.2015 at 16:50
Rating: 10 Started off as a 6-7/10. After I became more comfortable with the unfamiliar side of metal, I gave it a 9..and then eventually a 10. It's up there in the spire somewhere now.
Over the past week i've showered in the dark, fallen asleep and stared into nothingness to this. I've always considered The Mantle as the peak due to how it assisted/improved my poor mental state earlier in life. But this is different. In a way it's a toss up but for me there's no substitute to either album and there probably never will be. Imagination is the ultimate virtual reality and picturing limbo, emptiness, is still picturing something. So it's an album that stimulates my mind when I want it to but soothes it when I need it do. It's a musical vacuum that to many people exists but to me it lives.

Rating: 10 Is this gonna be staff-picked for its 10th anniversary? If so, I would be glad to join the party.

Rating: 10 Decade ^.^ Too bad I didn't know about this 10 years ago. People sell this thing upwards of $80 these days ;-;

Oh, wow. They finally fixed the list-directing thing. Now this album can look as important as it actually is.
Apothecary - 29.05.2015 at 00:05
Rating: 10 This is really one of the few albums I can firmly say is worthy of all the hype that it gets. Incredibly spooky atmosphere and really varied songwriting too, I mean Minions for example (favorite track) is borderline drone-ish. Some people might think I'm overestimating the degree to which there is, but I personally heard a lot of influence from this album on the new Leviathan one, and it's part of why I love the latter so much as well.
Dima - 25.07.2015 at 05:15
Rating: 10 For those who haven't heard the vinyl bonus track

Rating: 7 Feel like i have to wipe the jizim from my eyes after reading through this thread.

Though it's good i like Leviathan better.
