Lurker Of Chalice, a name that should ring a bell for the Black metallers out there. Two completely unavailable demos, one hard-to-get full-length. A full-length that cost many Black metaller a dear buck until it was finally re-released by Southern Lord. In my opinion, Lurker Of Chalice's self-titled, début and at the same time also final album was one of the few albums on e-bay that actually deserved to be sold for more than thirty quid/bucks???. Why? Let me tell you why.
To this day I still maintain my stand that if I was in the hospital and they gave me one hour to live.... I would blast this album.
It's not really because it's one of my favorite albums of all time... but because this is the only album that has managed to leave me completely empty after listening to it.
It drains your spirit. You just float... No happiness, no sadness, no fear of dying... Absolutely nothing. You are just ready.

That's a beautiful and perfect way of describing it

Hehehe, thanks for that. This album just gets me every time. Some of the samples are just...Damn. Specially the woman from "This Blood Falls As Mortal, Pt. 3" just packs a huge punch to the gut.
Before listening to this album I always had the idea that music HAD to evoke emotions otherwise it would be meaningless... But then I discovered this album and the realisation that music can also do the exact opposite, which could leave an impact just as strong if not stronger due to the extremely unique feeling of total emptiness. Just like lucas put it in his (brilliant) review:
Utterly free but also inescapably captured.
Written by !J.O.O.E.! on 12.12.2012 at 00:32 Apparently the lyrics are from a Sylvia Plath poem.
Yeah I know... and the voice is Gwyneth Paltrow's who was Sylvia in the biographical movie. I don't know if it's from an actual poem or just a quote but it's one of my favorite lines ever.
Written by !J.O.O.E.! on 12.12.2012 at 00:38 Meh, don't tell me that. That's the same as learning that the opening quote from Unlock The Shrine is from some crappy 80s police film.
Written by !J.O.O.E.! on 12.12.2012 at 00:41 She's hot in The Royal Tenenbaums, but generally speaking I'm not a great fan of her.
I always had a crush on her. I love her bone structure* and voice. I don't find her THAT beautiful but definitely one of those women that give me the strongest soothing and calm vibes just by looking at her. It's weird.
Incredible, mystifying album, with an atmosphere unlike any other. Listen to it late at night in a dark room with headphones, and let the music take you places.
I'll be back for my 15kth post. Still a gigantic masterpiece.
I've actually bent the rules a little and staff picked it. Won't show up for another 5 days though (on the main page anyway).
I'd wait for May 2015... just go all "After a decade... STILL A MASTERPIECE" I've seen how staff pick for old album work if soemthing a bit relevant happens. XP The 10k comment is good enough for me though.
So, did you discover it thanks to MS?
