With the Gothenburg metal scene in Sweden in full swing during the early 90's, bands such as Dissection, Unanimated, Necrophobic, Vinterland and Sacramentum suddenly emerged, creating a new form of black metal, melodic black metal, which inevitably became the darker and more sinister counterpart to melodic death metal. There's simply no denying Far Away From The Sun is one of those classic albums that played a huge role in the development of early melodic black metal.

Well whatever album it is, they are clearly influenced by either Emperor or Dissection and dare I say it superior to both. Although this is mainly because I dislike the keyboards used by Emperor, which is something this band does not use, I also prefer the vocals here.

In case some people are looking for this album (it was rare a while ago), it is available on Napalm Records. An excellent album.

Saw this in a record store today, almost bought it because of the artwork, but I stopped risking stuff like that. Sounds good though, so maybe I'll go back and buy it...

Easily my favourite album of all time, atmospheric and passional (and superior to anything dissection did).

The no. 1,2,5,7 and 8 tracks are good,, the rest is just average. I don't really think this band is better than Dissection.

Enjoyable melodic black metal.
The tracks "Fog's Kiss", "Blood Shall be Spilled", and "Beyond All Horizons" are excellent. The rest is good, but nothing too special. Definitely doesn't surpass Dissection's first two albums, but still a very good release - with wonderful cover artwork!

Huh, I knew these guys drew a lot of inspiration from Dissection, but I didn't expect Far Away From The Sun would actually sound literally like it was a compilation of leftover material from Storm of the Light's Bane sessions.

Phenomenal album! Something must have really clicked in Sweden during the 90's, there was an explosion of top quality melodic black metal bands that released some amazing albums such as; Dissection - Storm Of The Light's Bane, Vinterland - Welcome My Last Chapter, Dawn - Slaughtersun, Necrophobic - The Nocturnal Silence, Unanimated - Ancient God Of Evil, and of course this one.

Don't get me wrong there are plenty of top melodeath album's being released right now, but nothing has really come close since this era.

Saw these guys last night, performing "Far Away From The Sun" in full.

What a gig!!! If you get a chance to see them on tour I'd highly recommend going.

Bought a shirt after the show and a reissued vinyl this morning.

Saying that this album sounds like "it was a compilation of leftover material from Sorm of the Light's Bane sessions" is fucking embarrassing. Quality of said records or individual preference aside, I don't think two bands from similar scene and period could sound less alike.

I agree this sounds nothing like Storm of the Light's Bane. Lazy comparison.

That was indeed a really stupid comment, since Sacramentum's closer to Emperor or something similar more than Light's Bane, which happens to be one of my favourite metal albums of all time and always on my mind. However, Far Away from the Sun is still a great album.
