With their first two albums "I" and "II" the mysterious trio Darkspace quickly made name for themselves. Both albums where hymns to utter space, but focused on different aspects. Whereas "I" was faster and denser, "II" was a lot slower and focusing much more on the ambient side of their music. On "III" (it's getting annoying, isn't it?) they picked up the pace again, but maintained the ambient, free-flowing distortion of the second album. With these combined factors it is easily their best material up to date.

The sheer creativity in the music more than makes up for it.

Oh of course, i love these guys. I actually really like it when a band names albums like that, i don't know why, chronology just appeals to me

That and I'd rather my musicians focus on the music as opposed to naming their songs in a clever or unique manner.

I II III etc. works fine for me, or 1 2 3 for all I care.

Or just pull a Fell Voices and don't title anything. Untitled albums with untitled songs.

Feel Voices are pretty dickish though, I can imagine how difficult it would be to search for a download of the right album.

About Darkspace, Not only it's nice to have it all simple and let the music talk but it actually adds to the misterious vibe when the songs don't really have a real name. It's like each song is an X file!

Maybe they don't want you downloading their music.

I'm assuming that's what the cover art is for.

Rating: 8 I thought this band was pretty average at first. I started listening today, plowing through I and II and now III. First now I'm able to enjoy it. I'm gonna go back to the first two another day. III is scary.

It's not surprising really since darkspace is not the most normal black metal band out there. Needless to say that their approach is not much girlish
Are you familiar with any other ambient black metal band?

Sure there are other bands which are a better first step for this genre but I'm personally somehow new to ambient BM and do not know much about this genre. I guess this link would be helpful if you ever wanted to dive deeper into ambient black metal

I'm listening to them again, but still I have no idea,I can't relate to their music and sometimes they sound great and in some moments they sound meh.

You might prefer Sun Of The Blind. A one-man band with a member of Darkspace in. Kind of similar in sound, but different song writing and more melody and stuff.

yeah it differs so much by Darkspace , much easier to get into the song structure. All the sounds are clear in contrast to Darkspace, and well it's much more tangible, Darkspace sound is kinda unfamiliar to me, I just don't know how to digest it ( I'm not sure if I'm using the right words) but I'm still so curious to find out their structure and songwriting more. And thank you for the song.

I think Darkspace, like their name suggests, tries to make music to evoke the feeling of space in all its cold, vast expansiveness. Certainly not music for everyone though.

Roxana.M - 05.04.2014 at 20:33
Rating: 10 Now there is a lot of band that try to make music like darkspace but actually they are one and very unique in their own style.and about this album I think this is not an album that in the first time you get into(and maybe never cause it's not a music that every one can love).when i recommend darkspace albums to some one to listen i tell her/him that you must sit relax in a dark place, close your eyes and think to nothing but music...and then maybe you surprise that you don't need to try to much to think about nothing...darkspace will take all your attention...actually it was this way for me and yet it is. DARK SPACE III (and their other masterpieces) is really something marvelous and breath taking for me...yes no thought and no emotion but just endless void and darkness...a long journey in chaos and peaceful at the same time. i like tracks 3.16, 3.17 and 3.13 a little more than other tracks. waiting to new release to surprise again

This shits on the first Darkspace in every conceivable way.
Troy Killjoy - 05.09.2014 at 15:26
Haven't listened to Darkspace in a while aside from the new album teaser, but if I remember correctly I liked them better with each release. This was my personal favorite.

Gonna have to revisit them before the new one comes out.
3rdWorld - 04.09.2016 at 21:11
Coming to this after III I, it feels more raw and wall of sound-ish than its successor. Can't really say if this is the better one but definitely the wall of sound style playing is the highlight here. But for much more variety and freshness, I think III I takes the cake. Both are really good with III I slightly having the edge due to better production, awesome samples and more variety I guess making it sound more cosmic and darker.
3rdWorld - 15.10.2016 at 21:15
That riffage at the middle of 3.14 and the start of 3.16 are the highlights of the album for me. To me it sounded like someone woke me up when I'm on my doped hypersleep nightflight to venus and slapped me with a bunch of metal riffs. Instawin. Still not as much a space album as III I though.

The first Arizmenda album and Lurker of Chalice come very close though. Not so easy to decide actually.
