Well here we go, the old school of death metal in it's purest form, Consuming impulse is a very talented album, in fact Pestilence (at least their line-up till consuming impulse) were more talented than any Death Metal Band known in that time, and also the most brutal ones.

Ok, now for the review stuff, Consuming Impulse is a great piece of work every song in this album pushes the envelope known in metal, experimental songs (not as experimental as in other albums but that's good believe me), catchy riffs, spectacular playing techniques, and the best vocals I've ever heard in Metal (too bad Martin left the band to join Asphyx, he was great indeed).

Got Mayhem?

I can't figure out why this album isn't rated higher. Consuming Impulse, especially for it's time, is a monster of a death metal album. A near perfect mix of brutality and technical adeptness that few bands achieve. I'd put this album up against any other DM of it's time in a heartbeat.

I've been on a death metal kick lately. I view this as a top 5 OSDM album of all time. Been listening to this 2-3 times a day. So fucking good.

Their best album and better than anything from Morbid Angel IMO.

9.1/10 for me - 'The Process of Suffocation' and 'Out of the Body' are the standout tracks. 'Dehydrated' and 'Suspended Animation' are both also fantastic.

A Nice Guy
An absolute must have for old school death metal fans, it's an absolute classic, so much agression and brutalness, the quality is almost on par with Altars Of Madness IMO.
Its a very consistent album, kept relatively short, and with so many great songs, the best being "Echoes Of Death", and the weakest being "Dehydrated" IMO, even though that is still a good song.

Probably my 3rd favourite pure death metal album.

My top 5 would probably be:
1. Bloodbath - Nightmares Made Flesh
2. Dismember - Like An Ever Flowing Stream
3. Pestilence - Consuming Impulse
4. Vomitory - Blood Rapture
5. Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal

In general I prefer progressive or melodic death metal though.

Metal Rasputin

Consuming Impulse might not be objectively the best album ever, but I get so much enjoyment out of it. This is straightforward no bullshit in your face death metal without any later technical wizardry or even that refined production. This kind of filth makes me happy, the nasty cover art is a big plus. Every death metal album needs proper horror artwork.

Wow. First time listening to this album. This is basically exactly what I'm looking for in a death metal album. Thrash influenced riffing and vocals. Nice meaty guitar and bass tone. This is for sure influenced by Scream Bloody Gore, the vocals could be Chuck himself.
