After their successful debut, Amberian Dawn returned in 2009 with its follow-up The Clouds Of Northland Thunder. Anticipations were high and it seems like the band did not disappoint their fans. The Clouds Of Northland Thunder is not only production-wise better; this record shows a great improvement in the musicians' skills. Apparently, the band grew in confidence and remained faithful to their usual style.

Shame on those who dismiss them only because of the (excellent, by the way) vocals. Great band, great compositions, great live shows, great fun!  Finnish power metal paradise! Listening to them is pure bliss  I have yet to hear another female-fronted band pull neo-classical shred (and the whole style in general) off so well and tastefully. (Only Sinergy comes to mind, however, their style is slightly more traditional.) I think this band is quite underrated because of the fact that part of their potential audience (fans of power metal and guitar fans) miss them thanks to mis-categorisation. (Gothic metal - lolwut?)
Granted, shred and classical vocals are both technical, somewhat challenging for the listener to assimilate, and the masses are not used to it. But was metal ever about easy-listening music for the masses - rather than technical sophistication, presenting a challenge and, of course, rocking the listener's arse off? I don't think so! 
("Owl music" makes no sense to me. An oblique reference to a scroll-holding "snowy owl above the haunted waters"?)

I'm totally with Almagest on this one. "owl music" pff, maybe the majestic snow owl would enjoy such beautiful music you mean?

This is a killer album for me. It has everything i'd want from a symphonic power metal album with some great tracks.
I get that frosty Northern feeling through the album and I feel a strong influence from Nightwish's Oceanborn album.
