What happened when renowned bands of the gothic metal scene stopped experimenting? Hark! They made their sound rougher (again), more metal (again) and revived their most glorious period, becoming successful phantoms of themselves. Tiamat, Paradise Lost and Moonspell have to be the brightest examples. The same thing happened with Lake Of Tears, but to a different extent. This means that they made their sound rougher and present an ill-natured form of gothic metal, named Illwill. This new attempt is their strongest release to date in terms of heaviness and a very brave decision at the same time, with the key lying in the fact that they are still experimenting.

Good album! At some parts it reminds me of Kreators Endorama album, but with a more gothy rock edge. Very different from previous ones.

Another great album from LoT. Feels too short after 4 years of waiting, though...

6 seems a high score, then?

Well, that means 'overall'. There was one song I enjoyed a lot, that was 'House of the Setting Sun'. Plus, 6 is an average score, so: I think the album was average, didn't like it overall. Don't think I can simplify that any further...

Letdown of the year for me so far. It's far to straightforward and feels so uninspired, also the lyrics are quite bad at times.

Fair enough, I would just consider an 'average' album to be one that was okay, but nothing special. But if I said I didn't like something at all, dare I say I'd rate it 5 (not good), 4 (bad), or even 3 (very bad). But then again, different strokes for different folks!

This is the first Lake of Tears album I enjoyed since "Forever Autumn". Maybe 'cause it's so straightforward?..

Where is the DOOM ? Music or Lyrics where is sorrow where is soul. I didnt hear any doomish sound in all tracks.Maybe thrashic style guitars and cross good but it is not doom metal if it still does doom.
And I hate all of especially all lyrics

I'm agree ... but i think that is not bad at all, is hard to pick some doom sounds here, it have all this 90's hangover ... is like a tribute to the past .... like this emoticon

I was expected an album more gothic, despite of this, I find this album good, I like this retro-style, sometimes trashy, sometimes sounding like Tiamat ... but it keeps this Lake Of Tears style, something that we could call dirt gothic metal
