Saga's 1995 release sets a turning point in the band's sound. It's the middle 90s with grunge and alternative metal as the main players in the world of music. By the end of the 80's Saga decided to change their sound to a more radio-friendly pop/rock sound; that endured right until 1995, when the band decided to make this extraordinary conceptual and progressive rock album.

I think many people thought Saga was in for the count after Steel Umbrellas, would they be able to gain back the fans trust? And yes I guess everyone who bother to check out Generation 13 was blown away. This is their darkest record and also the most proginfluenced one, a 70 minute ride divided into 25 tracks. It's a monumental concept album filled with incredible melodies and performances by the band. There's a lot going on all the time with recurring elements from different songs so it's a record which is best enjoyed in a single sitting through headphones. One of their best moments in the career for sure, maybe I prefer the more easy going debut but this is still right there at the top in their discography.
