First, Varg is a good musician. It isn't easy to do everything at least decently: write the lyrics, beat the drums, play the guitar and scream your throat out. Let's take 'em all one by one.

The guitar is cutting sick. A thick, low quality distortion, fast tremolo riffs punching out with a softer guitar running past, all creating quite a balance and symetrical melodic line that doesn't bore you and offers some great moments. Actually, it's damned brilliant in some moments. Bass guitar is a bit absent; still, it has a nice moment on "A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit" and "War."

Rating: 9 I think the reason I like this album so much is because even after listening to it once it's sound resonates within your very soul-hence why it is also one of the best records to fall asleep to. This isn't to say it is boring in an way, just that the production and effectiveness of each instrument make it something truly hypnotic and mesmerizing. Even from the very beginning Count Grishnackh was making distinctive music. If there was one track this album could do without, I'd probably go with 'The Crying Orc', but that's about it.
