The French psychopaths make their long-awaited return after three and a half years since the band's last opus of groovy, grinding brutal death. Asylum Cave is Benighted just the way we've grown to love them, magnified by a whole lot more of everything.

Benighted are forward-thinking, backward-thinking, and any other directional-thinking. This album is full of good old brutal death metal meeting numerous schizophrenic tempo-changes, plenty of different sanity-questioning vocal styles, and elements of grindcore, deathcore, and others finding their way into the insanity.

The French brutal beasts Benighted, after releasing one of their greatest albums, they have recorded another good one. Their music is brutal-grindcore, which sounds good. I have listened to a couple of songs and found Asylum Cave really interesting for one reason; listening to Benighted feels like you're on the stage with them. They are one of the greatest brutal death metallers who were raised from France and for me, Benighted have a very holy place in metal music. They play with their rhythms, and the playing of instruments is good and always interesting. I would like to be there live in their concert. This album is full of my favorite of the band's songs which also have a sense of humor. Unfortunately, I've lost the album! But I can memorize each and every track tempo and their riffs. I like the way that Truch sings on this album. He combines many skills and sounds with each other which makes really interesting song writing. His lyrics are, good and good enough and the guitar sound is simply brilliant! No matter though, as Benighted's fans know exactly how good the solos are. Their changing-tempo is really sweet! Kevin Foley is one of the best drummers of brutal death metal and I think he is one of the powerful reasons of Benighted's success. He performs quality sounds of drums and the bassist is also powerful and produces nice sounds.

Rating: 10 I wasn't sure if this was gonna be good... Benighted have gotten close to Deathcore, the ultimate shitgenre before, but had not crossed line yet. This album, tho, does go that far at some points, but not like it's not like it would be a problem. We might have some -core here, but as long as it's good, who cares?

-core yes, but not deathcore, its clean grindcore and goregrind influence. Something like Dying Fetus (not exactly) Rest is fuckin brutal death metal. Brutal death + grindcore was always killing mix, and so it is this album. Great work.

Actually, no. If you fail at combining them you'll be creating the biggest crap ever. BUT, if you do it well, it's just mindblowing (like here).

Rating: 8 I just bought this album and it's really good - more energetic than Icon, but still doesn't beat Identisick.
Troy Killjoy - 23.04.2011 at 02:43
Even though it's not as good for me as Icon or Identisick, this is still in my top 5 for 2011.
Baz Anderson - 23.04.2011 at 03:34
It's probably my favourite Benighted album... I really love it.

Rating: 6 I've barely touched this record since I commented on it on the review. I thought it might occupy my mp3 player a bit because their past records did but it doesn't seem to have found its way beyond the odd song being played.

Rating: 8 Damn, I just started listening to this on headphones and it's way better than I initially thought... might have to rate this higher

Rating: 8 The song "Fritzl" reminds me of the Aborted song "Meticulous Invagination" maybe they stole the riff or something

Amazing album!

Pig Squealers!!!

Let the blood spill...between my broken TEEEEEEEEE...EEEEEE-EEEEEETH!

Awesome song, awesome album.
!J.O.O.E.! - 14.05.2011 at 06:23
Rating: 6 No, just no, the pig squeals on this record are hideous and disruptive, even if taken humorously. Wretched. Swallow is the best track on the album but still prone to most pig-squeal abuse.

Rating: 10 First album to expose me to the intricate music of this amazing band. Absolutely one of the best brutal death metal albums to caress my beaten ears.
wormdrink414 - 07.07.2011 at 11:47
Rating: 8 Promoting this to a 10. Can't get enough of it. Which is kind of a problem. I keep noticing that other albums aren't Asylum Cave and getting upset.

Edit: Back to a 9. I'd been drinking.

Rating: 9 This is the first album of Benighted that I have heard. And I am truly disappointed in myself that I did not discover them before. After hearing some rather average albums for the past few weeks, this album just came along and blew my mind at how good it is. Definitely going to have a look at their back-catalogue now.

Rating: 7 I think the last minute of "Lethal Merycism" shows that thin line with -core. great album though. and there are some exquisite drums in it. A 7 in my opinion.

I love it! Although I usually despise pig squeals. :/

Retarded pig squeals really mar this record.

I think a revolutionary idea for album would be to go to a farm, go to a section with lots of pigs, bring a portable amp and just start shredding over REAL pig squeals from actual pigs. That would be awesome.

I gotta agree though listening to this the pig squeals/vocals can kill it at times. For me anyways. Don't think this band is for me.

Rating: 8 Damn, first ever brutal death album I've listened to and didn't have high hopes for it, but the instrumental is pure killer. The overall vocals aren't on par with the instrumental still.
Oaken - 07.06.2012 at 20:17
Rating: 9 Awesome album. I didn't expect it to be so catchy and brutal at the same time. Plus some wicked leads here and there.
Deadmeat - 13.08.2013 at 14:48
Rating: 8 The first 3 songs are killer but the rest of the album isn't that awesome imo. i expected more tbh...
