I'm a big fan of Autopsy (though not all of their albums, but most), but for some reason, Abscess was never my thing. I somehow associated their music with my least favorite Autopsy album (Shitfun), but that's not the case with this one. While resemblances to the better-known Reifert and Coralles band are evident, it leans more towards the later reincarnation of this group. I must admit I genuinely adore this twisted, sick piece of death metal. Reifert's vocals are, as always, unsettling, and the melodies are both morbid and entertaining. The rhythm section is intriguing. This album could easily bear the Autopsy name and stand as a strong entry in their discography. I suppose it's a bit less doomy and has more mid and fast tempos. A solid 8.5 from my perspective.
