Damn, I thought Belphegor's career was dead for sure. For a little insight into how important this album is to this band, let's take a quick look at this bands past releases: Lucifer Incestus & Goatreich-Fleshcult are arguably their strongest, most evil sounding albums they've ever put out. Pestapokalypse VI took the regular Belphegor style, but played it in a more naked, stripped-down fashion, then everything went wrong. Bondage Goat Zombie saw the band flashing some new claws, but frankly it was too little, too late - everything they did felt pretty tired at that point. Then came Walpurgis Rites...it was horrendous to put it frankly. It was the sound of a band with no direction, no inspiration, and no fucking clue what they were doing; it sounded like a self-parody.

By the sounds of it, this one might actually be tolerable. I'm still scared to listen to the last album in it's entirety.

Yeah, it's getting good reviews all over the place, but I didn't get around to check it out yet. It'd be pretty hard to do worse than their last album

Walpurgis Rites is probably post-Goatreich Belphegor at their best. I hated it at first, but I recommend that you guys give it another chance. There are a few boring tracks, but what Belphegor album doesn't have one or two of those?

I have not been very fair on the album considering Ive only tried twice. If im willing to drive a few hours to see them, i might as well give them a few more chances.

Gave it a few more shots. It's not that it's boring, it's that it sounds like someone doing a parody of extreme metal.
This album however is damn good.

Good way to put it. Especially for Der Geistertreiber. I'm quick to assume that that sort of thing is intentional, when in fact, in Belphegor's case, it probably isn't. Agreed that this album is better, though. It took 4 or 5 listens before I came to that conclusion.

LOL! And you rate it 7, which means good... This seems contradictory... And if Lucifer Incestus and Goatreich-Fleshcult were 'Bland and Boring', then I'm Jesus! You made my day lad...

Edit: I'm listening to it right now and I'm pretty impressed...The production is awesome and the music is very interesting compared to their last two albums! I'd rate it 8/10 after a fisrst listening.

Decent album...better than the last 2 but I still prefer Pestapokalypse VI by far. Peter Tagtgren's influence surely helped but I still found it boring and not very memorable.

A pretty good album in terms of the genre itself, though some of the songs are unnecessarily longer than they should be. Nonetheless, this still is really brutal.
