First of all, before the review starts I'd like to say how much I love Parkway Drive's name, I mean it has that corniness that all metalcore bands should have, but it doesn't go over the top... I guess you can describe the music like that too.

Parkway Drive hails from down under, playing some slamming metalcore with crazy fast and technical leads, hard hitting breakdowns and a plethora of other goodies. First, and definitely the best aspect, is the guitar work. I mean, you don't get kids on YouTube covering your songs for pride if they aren't hard to play. Some of the lead riffs blow my mind away, and just when I think that's it - BOOM another riff on top of that. I seriously can't understand how the band can remember the order for these riffs.

I suspect they were big in Oz cause of local content requirements for radio stations and general lack of anything else (Australian metal scene is pretty shit).

What about Midnight Odyssey, Virgin Black, Lord, MurkRat, Aquillus, Woods Of Desolation, Black Majesty, Bel'ekor, Ne Oblivihoweveryouspellit and that sympho/gothic/doom band that I said sounds like a blackless modern Dimmu Borgir? We've got some pretty good bands, even if they aren't on the radio.

Totally agree, Australia's got some amazing bands! i think deadones perception of good metal (or for most things) is different to most on here, so wouldn't take his opinions to hart......sorry off topic

Yeah cause nearly all metalheads listen to obscure Black Metal and think Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Carcass, Nevermore, Pantera, Dark Tranquillity etc etc are utter shit.

because most people have realized theres more to metal than the eightees early ninetees

Alright guys there are other threads for you to debate listening habits of metalheads and such, but this is an album thread for Parkway Drive.

Let's try to keep it on topic, although you're welcome to carry on that conversation in a more appropriate location.

My point was Parkway Drive (and the even worse I Killed The Prom Queen) got big in Oz because there was nothing else being flogged on radio.

Or because PwD are extremely good live. Generally even people who don't like the band admit that.

I saw them years ago and they weren't that great. IKTPQ were even worse.

They might've improved since.

Well if you don't want to mosh like the madman, there is no point to them live. I have also seen them in 2012 november and they put up a huge party. Winston is quite a charismatic frontman and they manage to move the crowd quite well.

I also like them on album but w/e.
