Great album, which builds on the momentum and quality of the band's debut but also introduces a more eerie atmosphere and generally more monstrous sound. 'Deliverance' is my personal highlight from this album, but 'Genesis' and 'Arrival' are just as monumental in my opinion.

Finally got round to this. I'm glad they developed into the band they ultimately became, but there's still some neat stuff here, particularly the likes of Genesis, Circle, and Further. It's more of a 7.5 than an 8, but it's definitely a worthwhile listen

Some very thought-provoking movie quotes used perfectly for intensity on the early stuff. Can tell where Amenra got their structure from since Post is always better live than studio but these two come close to that harmonic sense of swaying found in Post-metal at its highest achievement for me.

Would anyone be kind to know where they (101 on self-titled and Further) are from, please? I feel like I've heard the latter on something like Soylent Green and assume the former is from 1984.

Don't know about 101, but the sample on Further is from an interview or a lecture or something of Noam Chomsky on the subject of propaganda.

Interesting. Merci! That was not the direction I had in mind so pleasant surprise.

Yeah, it's an interesting quote (and quite true, too).

About The Beyond, it was my first Cult Of Luna album back then, and it's still one of my favourites to this day, probably after Mariner and A Dawn To Fear. The opening riff of Genesis is godlike. Actually, it took me years to enjoy Salvation and SATH because I found them tame and relatively inoffensive compared to the sheer power and overwhelming heaviness of The Beyond.
