In what can only be described as a natural progression of one of the most highly regarded melodic death metal albums of the decade in Stone's Reach, Be'lakor have taken to the studio once more with the hopes of building on their already unrelenting momentum.

Sounds too hollow. Yes those riffs and melodies are damned impressive but there is very little to nothing behind them to build an atmosphere with like on the previous album. Stone's Reach was easily better overall I think.

And of course it's generic melodeath as well which the punters lap up like mad dogs.

Any one of us could argue the majority of metal you listen to is just as generic. Tried and true melodeath isn't any less innovative than revivalist death or traditional doom in my opinion. And to top it off so that it doesn't seem like I'm trying to single you out, this applies to most of the black metal I listen to as well. I'm just trying to illustrate the point that a lot of the music you bash suffers from the same problems as the music you love.

Stone's Reach still has more than twice the amount of votes and it's at 8.90 (72nd), that rating is pretty much in contention.

Been listening to the album quite profusely the last 2 weeks and I must admit it becomes boring pretty quickly. Theres interesting moments, but everything is just so "samey" the whole time. It was the same for me with Stone's Reach where I really loved "From Scythe To Sceptre" and "Venator", but from there everything quickly blends into 40 minutes of indisinguisible mid-paced metal.

Perhaps this is an album which is a good listen every 3 months or so. Definitely not something I can spin over and over like many other albums.

Kolony ran out of stock which caused the Finnish street date to push back to June 20th (was originally 15th). 70% of it went to Germany - expecting a few more dates to be announced around there!

Just a slight, very slight stepdown from Stone's Reach, but then Be'lakor never release anything mediocre, do they ??

I don't know if it was because I was expecting a second Stone's Reach, but I didn't quite liked it at first. Eventually it grew on me, but it took a while. The first few spins left me with a "meh, this isn't gonna work" impression and that it wasn't as remarkable as their 2nd, but a few days later I could hear the melodies in my subconscious as if it was calling me. It started to grow, and I'm starting to like it almost as much as Stone's Reach. I gave it a 9 for now, but it's a very fragile 9. I feel it lacks memorable moments and can go down a point if I'm in a more demanding mood.

I have increased my rating of this album to 8. It improves with each listen. And I had the great fortune to see them play live in Canberra last night and they were incredible. They opened with "Absit Omen" and the other tracks they played from Of Breath and Bone were "Remnants", "Fraught" and "By Moon and Star". Great to see these songs played live and they were flawless.

Well, being part of this minority, I consider Melodeath the most overrated subgenre by the users of this site. It's a good album though; an 8.0 - 8.2 for me, but far from being a masterpiece yet.

if you rate it 8 / 8.2 you're not a minority....we were talking about those who rated it 5 , didn''t we ? :-)

Ranked number 26 in the overall greatest death metal albums chart...seriously guys? Yea, I admit that I'm not really into Melo Death, maybe that's why I can't see the "awesomeness" everyone is claiming in this. Gonna listen to Towards the Megalith by DIsma now to "wash" my ears with some real morbid death metal.

You know what would make Be'lakor as legendary as Death was? If the next record can overshine Stone's Reach. I agree that Of Breath And Bone is a bit of step back, but it's still a very good record to listen to, and there are some real highlights and overall consistency on the album. As a judgement for the future, they haven't crossed the borders of melodic death metal... I'd say they could win the metal world if they try to be a little bit progressive. Just an opinion...

I hate melodeath, and i think Be'Lakor is probably the first band in the genre i like. I much prefer death metal vocals than melodeath, but the vocals still work here because the music is so damn good.

Remnants and In Parting are my favourites.

If you have problems with long albuns sure you don't enjoy many progressive bands...like Dream Theater or Rush or, i don't know...Opeth! ...They have huge exclusive songs! ...
