With the departure of the Madden brothers, it seems that David Gold is to take on drum duties
Here's a picture that does imply so: http://earache.tumblr.com/post/10128438230/woods-of-ypres-hard-at-work-on-the-new-album

I hope this album still gets released, despite this horrible tragedy.

I'm sure it will, and the proceeds will likely go towards paying off debts from the cost of the funeral.

A shame that David Gold dies leaving this boring album behind as his final legacy.

Why? I'm pretty sure he was the primary composer, if not the sole composer. The sound would be completely different.

Written by Boxcar Willy on 01.01.2012 at 06:04 I suppose your right. Maybe they'll pull an AC/DC, but even if it is like that it will never be the same. We need to have a way to bring back the dead.
You might like The Green Evening Requiem, featuring the Madden brothers.

Earache's webstore has loads of cool stuff on Woods 5 now for all the fans. CD/Vinyl/7 inch/poster/t-shirt.
And David Gold was the guy who wrote the music and lyrics all the way from the first release were he was the drummer 'til this newest release, even though I read that on the latest album Joel actually wrote some parts.
There is no hope of more WoY, David Gold was WoY. Even through insane amounts of lineup changes he kept the core always.

I was listening to it earlier today. I quite enjoyed it. Not perfect, but decent.
I remember talking to David a few months ago, and his description of the upcoming album was perfect: sad, classy and dark. I think he hit the nail on the head with that description. He was an interesting guy. Kind of weird how a person you only met a small handful of times can still leave you with that lump in your throat when they die.
EDIT: I see he used the same words in the interview I sat in on on that same night:
http://metalstorm.net/pub/interview.php?interview_id=610
TL;DR version:
Quote: Emily: Describe Woods 5 (The Next Album)
David: If there's a colour it's black, if there's a time of day it's at night, if there's a season at all its winter. It will be sad, classy, dark and heavy. I like storytelling and lyrical based songs because that's what I get in to. I'm almost 30 years old I've heard a lot of blast beats and a lot of guitar wanking but at this age I like a good song writing. I think people get into the music and connect with it because of that.

Very very average album built around discarded Paradise Lost riffs and Katatonia melodies.

The album isn't really released apart from the promo that earache let out, so it's sort of stupid to give ratings already (even though the fanboy in me couldn't resist)
To me the promo really hits home, everything just sounds right, I've been obsessively playing the album since it hit the web and it still feels great.
