Additional info The album features Varg's favorite tracks from his two first albums, Burzum and Det Som Engang Var, that were re-recorded in 2010, for this release, the way he originally intended.
Dedicated to Pytten.
Produced and engineered by Pytten and Davide Bertolini.
Recorded at Grieghallen Studios, March 2010.
Original artwork and layout by Dan Capp.
I blv it gona sucks, these tracks are black metal classics, why he need to fuck with them after 20 years
Well he has the right to do whatever he wants with the art he himself created. Supposedly he wasn't satisfied with how they turned out on the old albums, so now he has made them the way he originally intended. He doesn't care what other people think.
Whatever it is I'm still going to get it. Although it might not have the original Black Metal vibe that he himself created, it's still worth listening.
His latest 2 releases turned out pretty good to be honest, especially Belus.

In the name of forests; In the name of stars; In the name of all the seas; In the name of storms... Proud sons of ancient nation; Proud sons of sacred song in the wind; Proud sons behind a mirror of ice who told... Fathers of the icy age!!
From what I've listened (still need moar check)... it's more than just re-recording, lots of stuff is changed (and thats good). Musicianship much much better, production pretty clean and vocals are... unoriginal.
Overall feeling is mixed, some are excellent others meh... but without comparing to original, it's cool stuff indeed.
Written by Oaken on 28.11.2011 at 15:34 Is this worth my time or not? How does it differ from the original st00f?
I dunno what you deem "worth your time". It's worth mine because I'm a huge fan of Varg's early material and I want to see how it translates after going through a more modern recording. It's not a matter of urgency, however, as I've got more important things to check out atm.

C'mon now, I thought all the shit in Belus and Fallen would make me not have any interest now, but here's the shit; that it's not absolute shit. Everything improved. And yet the goddamn vocals still unoriginal. Wtf, anyway, it's like Varg is covering the original Burzum with this voice of his. :'(

To their tombs the people are immured,
There is their gold, treasure and wealth,
The only condition is to ignore them,
Those who feed on corruption and weave death
Let me go play some half-decent black metal with a certain attitude, kill someone and then come after 21 years of jail to make something. It'll be profit.

What's your point?
That Varg is becoming such an exploiting bitch. Even him the revolutionist got to fall for shit like this.

You can have your opinion. The fact, anyway, is that he can do what the hell he wants to do.
Indeed to each his opinion. ;/ Was just stating mine, especially after seeing this album on charts.

I'm not too sure what to think about this. I like how some tracks have a "fuller", thicker sound, but on the other hand, that whole "amateur in the basement" charm is lost. "Key To The Gate", for example, is pretty much ruined while "Ea, Lord of The Depths" does sound slightly better this way.
It sure beats Gorgoroth's pathetic excuse for a re-recording by a light year, though.
"Ea, Lord of The Depths" does sound slightly better this way.
I haven't heard the new version but I can hardly imagine how it could sound worse than the original, since the original sounds like utter crap.

They shake your hand and they smile and they buy you a drink
They say we'll be your friends we'll stick with you till the end
But everybody's only looking out for themselves
And you say who can you trust I'll tell you nobody
<<The mistakes made on some of the tracks during the recording could easily have been avoided had I only bothered to re-record certain parts, but the point at that time was to rebel against the streamlined (Death) Metal music. A few mistakes makes the music more alive and personal, it simply gives the music some "soul" and originality, so I never bothered to correct anything. The music on the Burzum albums is simply an honest and sincere, unvarnished and clear representation of me.>>
it's a new recording (Varg re-recorded the songs) which is quite different to a new production (i.e. mastering and or mixing)
I know that the songs were re-recorded. I meant that the production is different. I guess, Varg avoided some mistakes he made in the initial recording this time, but he didn't really re-write the songs.
