Release date: 31 October 2011
Style: Ambient , Djent

Owners:

Disc I
01. Awaken
02. Frost
03. Hail
04. Exmersion
05. Buds
06. Awe
07. Quittance
08. Limbo
09. Plenitude
10. Finale

Disc II
01. Dew Upon Shapeless Bounds
02. Winds From Untold Memories
03. Promises Of Our Early Days

Say what you will about the "Djent" genre but it mixes rather nicely with ambient soundscapes. Deep tone, spacey atmosphere and surprisingly pleasant clean vocals make this one of the most organic and impressive sounding Djent-affairs on the market. Called it "Progressive" instead of "Djent" if it irks you.

just some pure ambient stuff (note that I am using the term ambient very loosely here, don't know much about it). You can check my MU thread if you wanna try

Checking out some of the music now so I've got no critique yet, but I can say that the album art is one of the coolest I've seen.

The clean singing reminds me a bit of Staind, but very good album indeed. Enjoying it more than Tesseract... being the sucker for ambient that I am. Good staff choice !J.O.O.E.!

Cheers, yeah I preferred it over TesseracT too. The clean voices really mind me of something, it might even be Staind actually now you mention in.

TesseracT bother me. This album is very good though. Djent may be a somewhat credible genre(?) after all. The second disk is, for the most part, all ambient music, but it's well done ambient music.

I knew I'd be disappointed as soon as I began to see the "better than TesseracT" comments.

Gorgeous cover art and a solid album overall but it doesn't have the same lasting effect TesseracT's One had on me. The vocals, originality, face-melting bass and all around instrument work are stronger and more memorable on One.

Favorite tracks on Februus: Quittance, Plenitude

Favoritism bullshit aside, TesseracT fans should pick up Februus immediately and enjoy it for what it is, another fantastic addition to one of my favorite sub-genres. Somewhere in my Top 30 for this year, no doubt.

No love for disc 2? I guess most metalheads wouldn't appreciate something at the opposite end of the spectrum... I've actually listened to that one more than the first, incorporated into my cryosleep mix.

Well... I must admit it bored be a bit, even if it's quite nice. What bothered me most is that they did it like Textures did on Polars, just pushed the concept a bit further...

Cryosleep mix? Sounds interesting, explain yourself! I think disk 2 is purty neat too btw, good study music on my side.

The only thing that resembles this in my collection are Textures ,Gojira and Volumes. I am not a big fan of the genre but this album is the best I've heard in it.

Not such a fan of the vocals. They are way too typical of all deathcore and 'djent' bands around these days, the clean singing sounds a bit whiny and I can tell that when screaming his veins are not almost popping out of his neck (which they should be for this style, listen to Catch 33 for a correct example of vocals). I would have given this an 8 because the instrument side is excellent and they are a talented group who deal proficiently in ambiance and dynamics, but vocals can be something of a ruin-er unfortunately.

I actually find his style MILES away from all the others djent band around. But oh well, different ears I guess. Also... Yeah, not hearing the deathcore sound in the vocals either.

Disk I is more than enough for me but disk II is also pretty interesting to say at least.
Seriously, progressive metal and ambient were the last things I imagined for a combination.

The reason I like this is because I see them as moving away from the typical djent conventions. Sure, there are the chuggy syncopated riffs and heavily delayed clean guitar but the melodies are quite different. The clean vocals very much remind me of Garm.
