Just got my copy today!
Edit: After having it in my record player for a good week. I would have to say, not as good as 'A Caress of the Void' but its still an amazing record. An Extrinsic Divide is JAW DROPPING!

Extreme doom (in the broadest sense of the definition) this year is alive and well it seems. After the brilliant Faal and Bong comes Evoken.

Actually Evoken always sounds boring, but for a while I thought that was good...but NO!
Well...in big terms, compared with other forms or genres...sounds MEGA BORING!!!
Sad reality!

Look at his favourite bands and it is quite safe to say that doom metal and all its subgenres isn't for him

Is anyone else having a problem with the production on this album? There are several people on Evoken's facebook page whining about the album having a "loudness war" or being too "compressed". Now I'm no sound tech or sound mixing master or whatever, so all I use are my own two ears, but I think the album sounds great (I've listened to it on various devices / headphones too).
Just wanted to see what other people thought who enjoyed the album or didn't because of this ... "problem". It sounds like the band is talking about re-mastering and re-releasing, so I'm curious if people are over-reacting.

Actually I do agree to a certain extent about the production issues. It's not that well mastered to be honest.

Pretty much what other people have complained about; the whole loudness thing. Just a little loud and flat at times. Not the worst production I've ever heard so not a major issue really.

Ah gotcha. The one song I noticed it being a little loud was one of the two short songs, so it didn't really bother me much, but I was purposefully listening for it there. I don't listen to music very loud on my headphones, because they're relatively loud on just the second brick on my macbook.
Thanks for your reply.

Haven't heard the actual physical album yet. So I am not basing my judgement on the sound of it on youtube clips and leaked mp3 rips. Will have to wait till I get the physical copy.

Looks as though the band will address the production issues sometime in the future so it's good they've acknowledged there's a problem.

From their site "Based out of Canada (and now situated in the vast countryside about an hour-and-a-half West of the godforsaken Greater Toronto Area),"

I've been on a massive Evoken kick, pretty much all I've been listening to last week or two (other than the odd Esoteric / Ophis album). Every release is fantastic, even their Promo albums are worth finding.

Their albums are easier to listen to yes. At first I enjoyed their music, but didn't love it. Then I really sat down with their discography. It's remarkable what they've done over the past 20 years.

I only noticed the "loudness" problem when I had it turned up quite a bit. Once I turned it down it was fine for me. But then again, the problem shouldn't exist in the first place.
