When i heard "Metal Machine" iby Sabaton, i was like "i need to check all those legendary songs they mentioned"...in the refrain there is "The rainbow in the dark is shining"...so i checked it...and it was damn very worth of my time...

seriously now, i don't know any other song with such an effective atmospheric intro and then epic ass-pwning riff after epic ass-pwning riff as Holy Diver.

I agree with that. I think the album is slightly overrated, even though over half the album is classic stuff.

imo The Last In Line and Scared Heart are the overrated albums, thisione is judged right and Dream evil is immensely underrated

I'm listening to it now, and i've heard this album a lot of times. You're very right to say that it's a little overrated. Well Holy Diver has never been such a wonderful song to me but it's a classic nonetheless but i think i prefer the song Last In Line for example. Don't Talk To Strangers, Rainbow In The Dark and Invisible are my favorites but i don't really like Straight Through The Heart or Caught In The Middle...

A lot of people class "Sacred Heart" as a weak album, in fact its very rare I see anyone rating that album highly, so I don't think it's overrated at all.
"Dream Evil" is actually my fave album by Dio, and it is extremely underrated in my eyes at least.

One of the greatest album in heavy metal history. It's very important album for foundation of genre. It was golden time of 80's for heavy metal and the best album from Dio. We should all kneel to immortal Dio.:bow:

Being two and a half years late here, but that actually came as a chock to me too now that I read it. Who hasn't heard "Rainbow in the Dark" (especially) on the radio and TV like... your whole entire life?

Being two and a half years late here, but that actually came as a chock to me too now that I read it. Who hasn't heard "Rainbow in the Dark" (especially) on the radio and TV like... your whole entire life?
what came as a surprise to me is that the guy is (or used to be) a huge power metal fan, and about 90% of bands in that genre have been influenced in some way by Sabbath, Dio or Rainbow.

But yeah, this album is chockfull of tunes. 'Don't tale to Strangers', 'Straight through the Heart',the epic title track, it's all good. Only reason why its not a 10 is perhaps the album could have done without 'Gypsy', but it's not too big a deal anyway. Not when the rest of the album is brilliant.

On the topic of buying Holy Diver at great low prices, I picked it up for $6, and while not the best $6 I've ever spent (that honor goes to whenever I spend $6 on donuts), it sure it good. I really shouldn't like this album as much, since I dislike hard rockish music in general, and this album has a lot of hard rock/ACDC styled songs, but there's something so damn charismatic and likable about the whole thing.
