30.12.2011 When Ulcerate emerged early this year like a Kraken from the dead oceans and turned death metal upside down with an usually innovative lunge toward a Neurosis-ian, post-death aesthetic, I for one thought it would be a one-off entity for 2011. Apparently not. Along with a smattering of others that could fall under this neologism, such as Baring Teeth, Owl and perhaps even Mitochondrion, Flourishing take more than a leaf from this burgeoning movement of a more textured approach to death metal (and post-hardcore) and manage to inject a level of variety and diversity not seen even in The Destroyers Of All (being the perfect remedy for those that found it too repetitive).

This is one record that does not deserve to slip by unnoticed.

Better than Ulcerate! DM album of the year.

It's a hard decision but I think I have to agree. Especially after listening to their debut EP which seems to have a lot in common with the recent Ulcerate, only it was released far earlier, showing how innovative this band truly is.

don't know... I was listening to this again today (third spin) and realised that it has grown on me a lot. Need at least another spin of both records to tell haha

I listened to Ulcerate so many times that I'm comfortable saying it's the best DM release of 2011 but I admit that Ulcerate over-shadowed this release for me and that I still need to give this more proper listens

Rating: 9 Well ... ehm ... Upon further listens this turned out to be almost on-par with The Destroyers of All. The hardcore influence makes this even better

Yeah it does along the way and as you become familiar with the riffs it begins to unfold it's (beauty?)

Absolutely, and this is what makes it different from Ulcerate which is evil and vile most of the times

Thanks for the kind words. "A Momentary Sense of the Immediate World" ep was released in 2010, but the songs on that release were written during 2003-2004 and recorded in 2005. It took 5 years to release due to sheer laziness. With the exception of "By Which We're Cemented" and "Summary" the bulk of "The Sum of All Fossils" were written in 2005. We recorded a 3 song ep back in August which consists of all new material which should be released late 2012. The songs in my opinion are some of the best we've wrote. Grindier, Sludgier and more Experimental.

Thanks again all on Metal Storm for your support!

Well I'm certainly glad you got it out eventually. It's always interesting to hear admittance of laziness from musicians, particularly as you rarely imagine that such great music could possibly come from lazy musicians!

Needless to say I'm eagerly awaiting that EP now, should be great highlight for 2012.

Anyway thanks for your reply and best of luck with Flourishing, I hope you continue to get the recognition you deserve.

Could try out their most recent EP. it has a dirtier, grittier sound.

I first tried to download their recent EP a few months ago but could not find that and instead, stock to this album. I might try their first EP as it seems to be less sludgy, Anyway thanks for heads up .
