When Marcel reviewed Process Of Guilt's monstrous Erosion in 2009, he noted:

"…the band have now moved on towards to a more, what some would probably call, post-doom sound."

Suffice it to say that observation is even more true with 2012's Faemin, where the band further move in that direction. Rest assured, dear reader, this is not the ethereal wussy style post, but the Cult Of Neurosis bludgeoning by riff type.

Not exactly mesmerized with this one so far.

Did you start with this or have you listened to their back catalog.Just out of curiosity, because if you started with this then I'd definitely recommend visiting their previous releases.

No, I started off with Erosion. I didn't listen to their first album though. But I remember I felt about Erosion as I feel about this one for a long time. So, this can definitely change. I ended up thinking that Erosion was a great album a couple of years later.

Likewise Roddy. And while I definitely don't feel positive vibes when thinking of this release, I would never suggest someone completely give up on listening to what could potentially be another Erosion for them.

Rating: 5 Fæmin is a great example of when too much repetitiveness can totally ruin an album. If done right it can be a benefit but in this case it instead quickly became plain boring. While listening to the album I was hoping for the pattern to change but unfortunately it was the same story the whole way through as I constantly struggled to tell the songs apart.

The album ultimately came across as hollow with a handful of riffs being played over and over again while the vocalist desperately bawls like if there was no tomorrow. To no avail.

Same here. 100%.

Rating: 7 I fucken loved the idea they tried here, but the execution was off, making it uninteresting in the long run. They just took it too far.

Rating: 8 I finally gave this one a full-undivided attention-listen. Terrific album, this shit is right up my alley and I think I like this more than Amenra's Mass V.

I think we have a similar opinion about this one. I really like the concepts they were trying to execute and their musical strategy-- it was JUST SHORT ENOUGH to avoid boredom, in my view. I happen to think it is excellent, and have ranked it accordingly. It would get an 8.6 from me, but rounding makes it a 9.

Rating: 6 This one feels weak compared to Erosion, and even weaker than Renounce. I would have rated this even lower if it were longer.
I think Erosion is the one I'll be sticking to, I can see myself love that one. I see Jay made a reference to Amenra's Mass V. I understand why, their music goes in the same direction, even though the result is different. And to be honest, right now, I prefer Amenra's.

So much weaker. Really not that interesting
Troy Killjoy - 21.08.2014 at 03:13
Yup, they really dropped the ball on this one.
Mr. Doctor - 21.08.2014 at 15:57
Rating: 8 It depends a lot for me. Sometimes I wanna drop it to 6 or 7 if I pay too much focus on it but I've found myself walking on the streets and a cigg on my mouth (excuse the cliche but it's true) with this in the background and it does work wonders.

But in the end, nothing compared to Erosion which I love a lot.

I have the same sentiments pretty much. I used to have this as a 9, but I think it's about time to drop it to an 8, though.

Coincidence, I am listening to Erosion right now, as I want to be able to judge the whole discography while I still have it fresh in my memory. It almost sounds like it's not the same band. There is absolutely no tension in this one, and it's really disappointing. It's background music compared to Erosion.

Yeah, they changed quite a lot and lost a chunk of their personality on this one. I think if I gave it close listenings I might drop it to a 7 but overall I still enjoy it.

When I reviewed, I noted I felt it was the same band as the progression had already been happening, but as if they skipped a couple steps in the process. A->B->C->F

I liked it when I distanced myself from their prior full-length. It also helped adjust my expectations when I spent a lot of time listening to the dissections of "Circle" where each iteration deviated further from the closing track to Erosion.

Very good analogy - and review by the way. From what I read here most people "moved on" and accepted the change in sound. I suppose it came to me like a "shock" because I absorbed three of their albums for the first time in less than a week. I am sure I would have seen it as an evolution like most of you, instead of a sudden drop in intensity. I think I should wait a little and revisit this one with a new set of ears, just as you did.

Thanks, was not a particularly easy review to write.

It would certainly seem abrupt a switch if you binged on them as opposed to having a couple years in between and an inkling of what was to come. Hugo and I have done an interview and we've exchanged some emails, so I had an idea. Even then it was a bit more than expected, which didn't help coming off the heels of the absolutely fantastic "Erosion."

It might click for you the second pass with some time in between. Might not. But kudos for giving it the second chance later on down the line.
