We're all still alive it seems. There was no apocalypse for us as 2012 came to a close but the year did treat us with a premeditated glimpse of how things may have turned out in its aftermath with this compelling piece of post metal by Atoma.

31.12.2012 Leaving the Earth behind and exploring uncharted worlds and all the star systems rarely sounds this decisively passionate. Like kissing the world goodbye with the explosive romanticism of a mushroom cloud, Skylight offers vocal lines and guitar solos that echo the beauty of a nebula, all while letting us travel with them in the warmth of their journey afar. Like a tear with a smile beneath it.

Technichally, this is not a debut. The guys are ex-members of Slumber.

I'm going to give it a listen today, and seeing that Fallout is one of my favourite albums, I'll probably like this one very much as well.

Fortunately It's a grower, so don't give up on it fast unless you're not at all into electronica

I dont like electronica, but only the first track (ab)uses it, so I'll just skip that track from now on. The rest are very good.

Rating: 10 Best album I've heard this year. Unfortunately, they will still not recieve the recognition they deserve. Just as Slumber is starting to gain some popluarity, they change their name. Very odd.
Starchild - 30.04.2012 at 21:43
Rating: 9 My expectations for this album were huge, because I am a big fan of Slumber's Fallout. And i must say that those expectations are fulfilled. The style is pretty different from Slumber's doom melodic death, this is more like atmospheric post-metal/prog or something like that. But what an awesome album. The atmosphere is just outstanding. For me, album of the year so far!

There's a lot of electonica on the album man. Just give it a go, the atmosphere is so good.

Rating: 10 A question, hoping our Persian friends can answer:

What is the lyrics of the song "Skylight" ?
I just noticed خورشیدم میاد پایین
but i couldn't realize the rest.

Any help would be appreciated
Behdad K2 - 18.05.2012 at 20:31
Rating: 10 Well, after sending an email to Ehsan, he posted me the lyrics.
Here it is:

تبر به سر
می ریم به شب
خورشید را بیار پایین

He said it is written by his 7 year old cousin when he asked her to describe her feelings about the end of the world. It's exactly her words.

And for our non-Persian friends, i would translate the words:

"With axes on our heads,
we march through the night.
Bring down the Sun."

It's already No. 1 for 2012, but the album needs at least 200 votes to get into the top 200 of all-time.

well Iranian people are probably proud of this band and are over-rating it , as an Iranian I'm quite familiar with this concept xD

Rating: 10 You mean to say THIS album is overrated ? what planet are you living in.. ? nobody knows of them, completely in the dark. Compared to the rest of the crap on that top 20 list this one stands tall. It has some genuine musicianship and imagination to it that can't be found on any other of those records. Well deserved! This is my album of the year by far

You seem to understand about this album a lot...tell me, how does this sounds like? Can you explain me?
VienReich - 07.07.2012 at 00:19
Rating: 10 It's a daring mix of metal, rock, post rock, shoegaze, ambient and so on. I really have no idea what to call it. It's a journey, not a product of a genre.
One of the most stunning things about this album is actually how they made all these styles blend into one cohesive album. I've never heard anything like it.

I'm not saying they are overrated , actually they deserve the attention they are getting . I just said it's no wonder people are giving it 10s ...
well it's "your" album of the year .. not everyone's .

You seem to understand about this album a lot...tell me, how does this sounds like? Can you explain me?

I can.
It's vast. Like interstellar spaces.
It's colossal. Like billions of stars in the distance.
It's multilayer. Like giant web of galaxies.
It's unhurried. Like double star spinning around it's own axis.
It's majestic. Like tens of satellites rising above horizon.
It's cold. Like dead worlds where no life will ever be.
And it's personal. Like last glance at your own home.
Spacerunner - 07.07.2012 at 02:10
Rating: 8 By the way, I've just remembered a classic soliloquy from Blade Runner:
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die."
Pretty much describes this music too:)

Very nice description thanks, i see that this is amazing! at least you love it, but i see people saying that this is overrated, but i guess that's for haters or closed-mind babies! This music is for men, not for children!

Rating: 10 This kind of music is hard to define indeed, but I like it very much ! Even more than what the bandmembers did with Slumber actually.
"Resonance" is a bit boring, but the rest is truly amazing. "Rainmen" is just majestic !
I can't wait for the follow-up.

Rating: 7 Almost an average one to me.
Of course there are adsorbent moments for me through the album,
but overall it's not the best it could be IMO.
Anyway, you can just feel the "slumber-taste" here and there.
The melodies, mix and mastering, intervals and many other things,
but this album is more smoother than Fallout.
It has more electronic-generated sounds and less real instruments.
(I consider keyboards an electronic instrument.)
Anyway, overall it's good,
but there are few parts that you'll remember somewhere in your mind.

The translation I posted here, was my translation of the original Farsi lyrics.
So I guess the one you wrote is a better one
