When I search through Bandcamp for new releases I more often than not come across average or simply horrendous music. But luckily, every now and again I manage to uncover a hidden gem amidst all the junk. Herodias Dance of the Seven Veils is the most recent of those discoveries.
Herodias plays a unique (at least to my knowledge) blend of funeral doom and neoclassical/darkwave. The bleak and crushing doom aspects of the music ain't that special on their own but together with the angelic female vocals, which are some of the most impressive ones I have ever heard, the sheer contrast between the two creates an atmosphere which completely blew my mind. In order to add a bit of variety, the album also contains some beautiful piano and guitar pieces that enhances the the substantial ambience even further.
Apparently the band is already working on their next album set to be released in early September and I can barely wait to find out what they come up with next. One thing is for sure though, if it is anything like their debut, it will be an amazing experience.

I heard the first song , really boring with no climax ... just repeated piano with repeated uninteresting female vocals on it .

When I first heard this album on Youtube, I was blown away by Kristina Rocco's voice- IMO, she stands alone in doom and also rivals anyone in metal. But my favorite attribute of Dance of the Seven Veils is the balance between her beautiful voice and Michael's crushing guitar. The atmosphere is rich and the songs are haunting. I think this is an unusual release and that's a good thing right now. I also think it's adorable that a married couple does this together. I'm seriously looking forward to Antevorta.
