I finally figured out why I don't rate the new Indesinence higher, it is the many Celtci Frost references in the songs and I always found that band soso at best.

Those references really bring this album down. Now it's only omy numeber six in my extreme doom list of this year

What beats it? Because honestly this is probably top 3 doom albums of the year for me.

for me personally Anhedonist, Evoken, Faal, Profetus, Worship. (as you can see ordered alphabetically and not in order of preference)

I was glad to see Decibel magazine list Evoken's latest as No. 3 on their top 40 albums of 2012 list.

As for Indesinence, I still haven't picked this up yet. The music is good enough but the packaging looks sweet too. It is on my Christmas wish list and I've made sure my wife knows.

2012 Extreme Doom album of the year
I didn't think that there'll be another extreme doom album that I'll like more than Faal but this is marvelous.

Definitely a massive release, deeply mood-altering.

So the main theme about light & decay, i find it controversial and thought provoking. I'd prefer more mellow moments.. suits better my taste maybe.

The artwork is good btw.

It's definitely a good album, but it's not great. There were several extreme doom releases that topped this one in 2012. Whenever I put on Vessels Of Light And Decay I couldn't stop asking myself, "Why am I not listening to Evoken right now?"

I'm not really all that in to Doom but I'm intrigued by this. I decided to check it out because of Erik's list and it reminds me a bit of Faal, which is a release I enjoyed quite a bit for being a Doom release.

*Keep in mind I'm far from a Doom aficionado so don't disembowel me if you disagree that Indesinence and Faal sound alike.

knife's out and sharpened and ready to disembowel you. The two don't sound alike at all. For one Indesinence has pure death metal parts in their sound whereas Faal doesn't.

Maybe the reason the two remind you of each other is that greg Chandler of Esoteric did the mixing of both The Clouds Are Burning and Vessels Of Light And Decay.

That would explain a lot. I'm not a Doomster as thou art, but I could Kinda tell they weren't really that much a like (beyond both being slow and having deep vocals ), but it still made me think of Faal in my head.

That's also the reason I put the little *Disclaimer at the bottom of my post.

Listened to this a couple times today. Struck me as sounding more like slow-paced death metal than doom, but still a good album. Made the couple hours I spent listening to it go by very nicely.

Seeing as the drummer is also in Grave Miasma and Cruciamentum I am guessing it will take a couple of more years.
