This Fates Warning's 1994 release continues the style of their previous album Parallels which made the group more known to audience all over, getting radio plays and appearing as their most commercially successful album to date. "Inside Out" is similar in sound to its predecessor (and, coincidentally, my most beloved album in Fates Warning discography) - "Parallels". At the same time, it doesn't mean that this album shows no evolution in the band's sound. It's just that the changes are subtle. Some songs, such as Outside Looking In, Shelter Me and Monument are just brilliant, while some others... don't sound special. And it's exactly the fact that stops me from loving this record wholeheartedly. Still, all in all, a very good album of magnificent progressive metal band.

I wish it would have had a bit crispier production but it's still sounds alright. I think I prefer this one to Parallel Lines, there's no Eleventh Hour here but I think the record overall has better flow and the melodies are often very soothing.
