Well, Stratovarius nailed it, Helloween nailed it, now it's time for Gamma Ray to "Shine Forever"!

I can only hope that "Empire Of The Undead" is a lot better than the title track from the last album, which was pretty awful. I had very low expectations for the album after hearing that song before it's release, and it ended up being the worst track on the album. A very inferior take on Judas Priest's "Metal Gods" was how it sounded to me!

I think this EP will be a very strong indicator to how the new album will sound. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best, but my expectations are definitely low for this one...

Imo, "To The Metal" sounded like a Manowar song and not like a Gamma Ray song.

Manowar? I dunno if I'd go that far... To me, it always sounded like a bad knock-off of mainstream early 80's Priest. It probably says a lot that whilst "British Steel" is an overrated album, every song on it is vastly superior to the song "To The Metal"....

I understand the comparison with early 80s Judas Priest. But I also believe this song is something Manowar could do.
Bottom line is it's not the kind of song we can expect from Gamma Ray as Kai Hansen proved many times that he can do immensely better than that.

You are absolutely correct, and happily Kai is proving that even today he can write much better stuff than "To The Metal". Here are the two new songs!

Here are the two new songs!

Thanks for posting them.

"Empire Of The Undead": The Priest is strong with this one.

"Master Of Confusion": Very good. I like it.

You're very welcome.

There is a Priest influence in the main riff (in "Empire Of The Undead"), but Priest have never played quite that fast! The rest of the song doesn't really sound like Priest, and is pure power metal the likes of which I thought was beyond Kai these days. A nice surprise for sure! It blows the last album's title track out of the water, that much is a fact anyway.

The song "Master Of Confusion" is probably the catchiest Gamma Ray song since "Heaven Or Hell", and it has an awesome bridge and solo section. These 2 new songs show both sides of Gamma Ray (the fast and the catchy) in a high quality that has been abscent in much of their work in the last decade. If the rest of the album can match these 2 songs, it will be the best thing from Gamma Ray since "No World Order", no doubt about it.

Is it me or Kai got some weight? He looks a bit like Gerard Depardieu on this video (not as fat as Depardieu, of course, but the comparison came to my mind):

By the way, some people see a likeness between this song and "Send Me A Sign" but I also see a similarity with "Heaven Or Hell".

Sweet - Lost Angels was made for Gamma Ray to make a cover! The chorus is similar to a moment in the Gamma Ray song "Armageddon"

And the main riff "Empire Of The Undead" sounds a bit inspired by Metallica - Hit The Lights. Awesome Ep! The album is gonna be epic!

The new songs are pretty sweet, the covers are okay, but the live versions are awful, for the most part. Especially "Time to Break Free", one of my favorite Gamma Ray songs.

Hmm... Empire of the Undead sounded a bit more motorhead to me than priest, quite honestly. I hear a bit of ace of spades in that riff... though that might just be me.
