Thought this was actually a pretty awesome album. Some nice solid instrumentation throughout and vocals aren't too annoying, though do become repetitive towards the end. On some songs the drums sound like they're over-taking everything else, which may or may not be a bad thing depending on your preference. Personal highlights for me are 'Reign of darkness', 'Shadow of eternal sin' and 'Dead sun'.

I'm a huge Thy Art fan, and while I recognize how significant this album is, I don't really like it too much. It has a super strong start, Reign of Darkness is an absolutely FANTASTIC song, but nothing in the album is really gripping enough after that. It's not bad, it's just "meh". It's not as brutal as The Adversary or as refined as Holy War, or even as stupidly catchy as Infinite Death. It's just kinda there.



As to the signifiance, this was an absolutely massive seller, especially in Australia where it broke extreme metal records. It popularized the dark, minimal chugging that plagues deathcore to this day, and is pretty much now the best known deathcore album that isn't from Suicide Silence or early Bring Me The Horizon.

For those who actually really enjoy Hate and want more, check out Aversions Crown and Slaughter To Prevail, two bands not on MS yet.

This album rules. Sure if it's all you listened to it would get old.. but if you're looking to listen to one of the heaviest albums on earth listen to this.

As compare to "The Adversary"? Nope.

Only one song that kicked hard in the nuts - Reign Of Darkness. The rest is just mediocre at its best.
