Another few years have passed and the once so mighty Children Of Bodom give it another try. People out there might have heard the rumours already so here is the essential question: Are they back? Back from their downhill path starting with Are You Dead Yet? If you want an answer to that, get yourself the album and find it out by yourself, for it's truly a quite personal question. But let's have a look beyond conservatives and fanboy rockers and get some insight to the subject.

The singles released for this album, "Transference" and "Halo Of Blood", set off a storm of anticipation and excitement around this album due to the fact that these songs sounded reminiscent of the Children Of Bodom's classical and often most cherished early albums. But now that the album is out and the dust is settled, does Halo Of Blood really live up to the hype?

Very good, but this is certainly no Hatebreeder.

Rating: 8 I prefer listening to Death Metal/Black Metal than melodic death metal/extreme power metal, but I heard that Children of Bodom is really good, so I just bought this album (with bonus tracks and dvd). Halo of Blood is not an absolute masterpiece, but it is very good and intense as well

Of you have no prior experience with The Bodom Boys then you really need to start at the beginning.

Something Wild wasn't the best but it was still far superior to this and all of the 3 albums that preceded this one. Hatebreeder and Follow The Reaper are their absolute best, and every (yes, I do mean every) body who is familiar with their discography will tell you this. Hate Crew Deathroll was the 4th best album; Halo of Blood is very similar and feels like an attempt to recreate the success of that album. Then the 3 between HCDR and HOB are just pure rubbish; they are lame attempts at a commercialized sound and style.

So, basically, start from the beginning and listen chronologically, but the general consensus is that their discography in order of fantastic to garbage is:
Hatebreeder ~
Follow The Reaper ~
Something Wild
Hate Crew Deathroll
Halo Of Blood
Blooddrunk*
Are You Dead Yet?*
Relentless Reckless Forever*

~ these are interchangeable from person to person but always considered the top 2 and pinnacle of their career

* these are mostly all considered rubbish and not worth listening to past a first listen

Rating: 8 Was it Tägtgren who knocked some sense into Alexi and made him turn the keyboards back up? I like to think Janne spiked his Blue Moon at the wrap party, snuck into the studio and doctored the mix. Whatever the case, good to have Bodom back.
