The masters of heavy rock operas are back. Vanden Plas, from the city of Kaiserslautern, Germany, have been steadily grabbing dully deserved attention of late with their unique theatrical approach to music applied to progressive power metal. It has been 4 years already since they released the addictive concept album The Seraphic Clockwork. They took things even a notch farther in terms of theater performance by teaming up with fantasy writer Wolfgang Hohlbein to interpret his Netherworld novels on stage in the form of a rock opera for a few selected shows in Germany. With the bombastic title of Chronicles of the Immortals: Netherworld (Path I), this is the studio recording of the first half of those songs.

This is truly one of the best bands in the world! It will be tough to top their last effort. But they never disappoint. Its time for more international recognition.

+1 they had the concept but the few songs I checked online were pretty clueless and lacked inspiration..

Rating: 9 Good album!! I'm enjoying it. I really like the "New Vampyre" song!

My only issue is that the digital download didn't include a booklet. I really want to know what the story for this album is but I have no idea. For that reason, I can't rate this album higher then Seraphic Clockwork. I loved the story of the previous record and knowing it really enhanced the experience for me. Without knowing it, this album just feels like a collection of great songs without any cohesion. I learned my lesson though, from now on I will not buy digital albums of Vanden Plas...

Rating: 9 Decided to listen while playing Skyrim (for added epicosity) and at times I found myself standing still in the game so I could listen exclusively to these fantastic songs. WOW. It's simply an amazingly epic album.
M C Vice - 27.03.2014 at 10:19
Rating: 9 Kamelot. Ayreon, Dimmu Borgir, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Saturnian, Serenity, Lingua Mortis Orchestra, I'm hearing bits of everyone on this.
Mountain King - 31.03.2014 at 22:53
It's a good album. I have listened to every album by this band, and while this one has many decent riffs and interesting songs it's not their best at all. Christ O remains my favorite...

Rating: 9 Absolutely mesmerising album! Might even take the crown as my favourite 2014 release so far. They way they blend together beauty, darkness, elegance, power, etc, etc is just incredible.
