Tasteful evolution. If there ever was a phrase to describe Dark Fortress, that, right there, is it. They're never ones to reinvent the wheel, but why should they? They've crafted their own sound without any extravagant gimmicks, they don't take risks, but they also never really misstep. With each album, Dark Fortress just defines their sound a little more. Venereal Dawn is another solid step forward in the logical progression of their history.

Rating: 6 Kind of bored me a lot of the time. Cool for one listen but I won't be revisiting this one.
It doesn't help that the album is 70 minutes long.

Rating: 4 I'm really not sure how I feel about this album. Think this one will need a few more listens first.

Rating: 5 Very disappointed. By far not as good as their 4 previous albums
When I first listened it I just thought the songs have a slow start only to get intresting later. But after a few listens I can safely say that most of all these songs never get intresting at all. I knew they would change their sound again but this is just plain boring and not the Dark Fortress I know.

RIP yet another good band that seems to be out of ideas.

Rating: 8 Excellent album, certainly one of the better experimental extreme metal releases of 2014. The majority of songs here constantly remind me of Triptykon and Opeth, but obviously not in a copycat sort of way. My only slight problem is that the band sound like they're trying too hard sometimes, and so the running time could do with being cut by 10 minutes, but it's made up for by the likes of "The Deep" and "Lloigor". My personal highlights would be the title track, "On Fever's Wings" and "The Deep".
