Looking forward to this a lot. If they keep their quality as high as the first two albums (which is very high indeed), then this will end up as the best death doom metal album of 2014.

Good album. On a par with their previous full-lengths.

Their previous albums aren't just "good", they're awesome.

So yeah, if this is on par with the previous ones, I'm going to expect this to end up as my favourite death doom album of 2014.

I'm going to expect this to end up as my favourite death doom album of 2014.

I sincerely doubt it, considering how fricking awesome the Nightfell's debut is

Thanks for the suggestion. Might as well give it a spin seeing as this album is nowhere to be found on the internet... at least, I can't stream it anywhere (aside from one song on Bandcamp, which is great).

These folks are truly consistent. They may tread on a safe path, but the road they've taken is high already.

Just finished listening to the Nightfell album. It's certainly going to be tough to pick between the two for my own personal taste. Appreciate you suggesting this on the Ophis page. Always a treat to find other good bands.

Finally got this in the mail, for fuck's sake. Bought it seeing as it's simply impossible to stream it online. And while I have only heard one track, I'm sure this is a great or even excellent album, seeing as this band is highly consistent. Will be checking this out real soon.

Even with the high hopes I had for this album, it surely didn't disappoint me in any way. In fact, it's absolutely fantastic! This is why I love death doom. And it's the real stuff: loads of doom and loads of death metal in their sound (in contrary to death doom that's only called as such because of the "death metal" vocals).

Hard to say whether I prefer it to their first two albums, seeing as all three are awesome.

Totally agreed. Now if they just release a 4th album as excellent as the first three, they will pretty much be a legendary band in the genre (that is, if they aren't already).

Yeah, annoyingly they only have one song featured on their Bandcamp page. I couldn't stream it anywhere either, so I just bought the album. And I sure as hell don't regret doing so, as my rating clearly shows.

Erik, this album is not bad at all, but hey come on, it's not that amazing either specially when it comes to comparing it with Clouds, by no means this can be superior to that awesome album.

I like it more than the Clouds album. Just personal preference I guess.

For the record, while I do think this album is excellent, I don't think it beats the first two Ophis albums. Those are still superior to this one for sure.

Ophis combines doom and death metal extremely well. I love that kind of variety: the very slow doom parts and the built-up to the death metal riffs. Ophis' crushing, aggressive sound also appeals to me a lot, even though that sound is better on the first two albums. Check out Pazuzu (that intro alone is sick as hell) or Godforsaken for example, two awesome songs.

So yeah, with great riffs, melodies and atmosphere, I'd say this is the best (death) doom album of 2014 without a doubt.
