Protip for aspiring musicians. Do not make a simple piano (other instrument) intro and then simply ape that melody with the guitar. That's very sophomoric songwriting, and an unfortunate way for Azaghal to open their album. I've heard Omega, so I know that they know better. While this opener goes on way too long, Azaghal is quick to make up for it somewhat with the groovy riff and rumbly bass that immediately follow. The verses make you want to do the zombie sway. D-beats, folky clean singing in the bridge, nice tremolo on the outro...this song should have set the stage. And so it goes for the rest of the album: we'll get a lazy, repetitive riff or song, followed by a good one, and then back again. To say "inconsistent" is an understatement. This is a roller-coaster ride of songwriting quality. There is about half of a good album here, and that half is incredibly fun. But everything in between is frustratingly jarring me from my listening experience.
