Pathway is a hard album to get into. Perhaps the biggest complaint is that it has thirteen tracks but there are only six actual songs, leaving some to feel disappointed. Another barrier is that the music is in constant flux between doom metal, black metal, and almost Deftones-like clean vocals, so it is easy to get lost in the chaos despite the songs developing at a fairly slow pace. It took me about five spins before my mind even began to comprehend what was going on. Yet I would argue that what seems like Secrets Of The Sky's biggest error is actually Pathway's greatest strength.

Very impressive album. Reminds me of Swallow the Sun. Dramatic and grandiose, and I really like the clean vocals as well. Just wish there was more, you know, music than those short filler tracks. I'm glad I checked this out though. Favorite track: Angel in Vines.

Good album considered on its own merits but definitely a letdown after their masterpiece "To Sail Black Waters". They moved a bit too far away from their progressive black metal roots towards more of a doom vibe. I miss the manic energy of "To Sail..." and the modern doom metal landscape is already too crowded as it is.

Just as the previous album they mantain a mix of genres, outstanding!
and the songs with roman numerals are an interesting addition as they are like ambient noises (ocean waves, someone walking on gravel etc.) and help set the gloomy atmosphere.
