I must apologize, fellow Metal Stormers, for there is still one Maurice de Jong output from 2015 that I failed to sufficiently bring to your attention. You had your tongue gnawed while you were dragged into sunlight. It only got worse as you were thrown, mesmerized, into the abyss of longing throats, while hell followed shortly thereafter in the Pyriphlegethon. But did you forget to wear your cloak of altering for protection while all of this was occurring? You can't forget about the cloak, you guys. Never forget about the cloak.

From the snippets I've heard of the album released via facebook I can firmly state that I'm super fucking excited for this release

It's starting to look that way for me too. Gnaw Their Tongues has been my favorite for a long time but the last one was a missed opportunity while Cloak Of Altering is still consistent and strong.
I personally would like a production more akin Ancient Paths Through Timeless Voids while at the same time keeing the savage and opressive tones of Plague Beasts.

WIll be very hard to top the last one. I, as a sucker for fast rhythms found the gabber-influenced last record way too sweet. He sure as hell won't be able to top that one so it will be interesting to see which direction he goes now.

Heard the new song yesterday and it's actually a little tame, and almost like it's missing a few levels. We'll see I guess.

Mine as well, with Aderlating at a close #2 spot. I prefer Cloak Of Altering, however, when Mories is pushing the psychotic electronic agenda with it (as on the NONE EP and sort of on Plague Beasts as well). The new track that was shared sounded like this album is overall going to be more inclined towards metal than some of the past releases have been, and I talked to Mories about it the other day and he confirmed that that is indeed the case. Sooooo.... I dunno, I'm sure it'll be great shit that blows the large majority of other BM out of the water, as usual, but I think I may end up enjoying this one less than the past two or so COA releases, even if only by a slight margin.

My most favorite project of him is GNT, but it seems that the golden age of GNT has long passed :'( I cannot decide between aderlating and seirom for the 2nd spot, and that is fun given the huge difference between those bands

Interestingly enough, I checked twice to be sure that I'm making the abbreviation in a correct way. Something is wrong with my brain it seems

Sounding good.

Something seems missing and I can't detect what though... I used to get more desperation feeling when listening to COA, due to the blasts and the mess going on along with them and all.
This record has all of that but it didn't give the same vibe.

Underwhelming and not very interesting compositionally. Some good ideas here and there. Maybe it will grow on me. Then again I didn't care much for the latest GTT either. A bad year for Mories it seems.

EDIT: After repeated listens I can confirm that this album is in fact mediocre.

I feel the same way about this with how I feel about the latest GTT: It's a decent listen, but ultimately missing something that prevents it from being great.

Welp, back to the colab.

Nah, this is hitting the right spot with me... then again, I'm biased, as COA is probably my favorite Mories project. I went into this looking for the electronic craziness of Plague Beasts and the NONE EP to be retained. It isn't really, and overall this album feels a lot more metal-based, but the COA edge is still there, Mories has definitely created a definitive sound with it. That second track especially just isn't really the type of shit you'd hear elsewhere in his discography.

Overall a pretty solid effort, not the project's best, but still quite good.

Lame, a pity. Funny thing I thought this album could have been excellent at the beginning.

Might not be quite top form, but 'Cave Systems Of The Outer Moons' is one hell of a great track. Could be because it was one of the tracks pre-released, but it's visually arresting stuff at any rate.

On the whole not quite the abject failure some people are making out; more of a moment by moment album rather than something all-encompassing. The DiS collab is still the go-to Mories release this year, though.

Based on the one track released, I think Aderlating will end up on top this year for me, but so far this is my go-to MAotY.
