I read when this was initially announced that it was gonna be a double album. Wonder what happened.

Worry not, it will still be double as expensive

Maybe it's going to be similar to how Iron Maiden released "The Book of Souls" as a double album. They may divide the track listing in half into their own CD or side. Either way, I'm excited.

Don't know if it's first listen syndrome but boy, this is amazing. They brought some rock back into the mix. The recycling of older songs doesn't even bother me.

I only got about half way through the album before I had to do something else but it's probably the most engaged I've been in Ulver since Perdition City.

One listen sure isn't enough to delve into 80 fucking minutes of music but so far it sounds really promising. It's huge and adventurous, throws in psych-rock, kraut, soundscapes, drone; and despite the broader scope, it sounds way more focused and compelling than their latest releases.

Wow, are you me? I was really stuck on a sleep schedule so I had to cut my listen short. My reaction was the same as yours. Probably their most interesting stuff since Perdition City, on par with Blood Inside from what I've heard so far.

Halfway through first listen. the initial track alternated between enticing and annoying me. next five were thoroughly enjoyable.

Very nice album, I love this band's experimental nature.

Ok, just finished this today. It is quite heavy on the percussion side with many layers of drums going on at the same time. And the songwriting is really distinct this time and each song firmly stands apart on its own. Probably these two might be the reasons that make this the most engaging Ulver album since whatever that last album people enjoyed from them. Also I would've preferred a little more electro-ambient and noise aspects on this record which it lacks quite a bit since the tiny little moments where they pop up are simply brilliant. Rather though, this is a real complete package from Ulver and definitely worth repeated listens.

I say the just raised to another level with their own signature with all that limbo atmosphere
the mixture of instruments and effects are pretty solid and great and i think this is one of their greatest albums so far

The first track seemed kind of pointless, but sticking out to the end of the album really paid off. As everyone else has already said, this was really engaging - much more so than I'd imagined. The longer tracks are the best.
Also, "A Vernal Catnap" is an anagram of "Planet Caravan".

I feel like I have to listen to that track and Planet Caravan back to back now to see how they compare

Maybe it's just me, but I sensed some very Coil-ish moments (during the more ambient tracks). At one point I almost expected that John Balance would pop out and sing with his mesmerizing voice. He obviously didn't, RIP John. Such a lovely album btw.

Electro Ulver never captured my attention, but a random bandcamp listen and damn, this is good! Some great build ups and excellent use of percusion.
Might as well go check their catalogue again, if they already did anything remotely similar.
