Grief Relic is my first time crossing paths with Withered, the joining of the mighty Ethan McCarthy (Primitive Man, Vermin Womb, ex-CTTTOAFF) to the band being a treat that immediately raised interest. This black/death metal infantry is armed to the teeth with all the fixins: blitzkrieg guitars, thundering drum and bass, monstrous vocals from Ethan and Mike Thompson, and a pleasantly variable tempo ranging from frantic bangers one moment to slow, painful crushers the next. Personally, I found this to be pretty dull. It's technical, but without soul. That and I feel like I've heard it before. I expect more from ELM.

Withered isn't really "Ethan's band" in the same sense that Primitive Man, Vermin Womb, CTTTOAFF, etc. are

It's a good record but sounds more brutal death metallish than black death to me and slight doom influences as well. Its only decent and certainly not on Primitive Man levels of goodness.
