I honestly hope he is just very successful at trolling. I find him hilarious with the language he uses in his reviews and stuff, but I also get why no one wants to be roasted by their peers
Listened to a Hercules album (the new one). Wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Definitly needs a better singer, though. Parts of it made me think of a lower grade Isengarde playing power metal.
^Those riffs have been stuck in my head since I first heard the album live last October. Now I can finally play them on repeat.
And for whoever's curious, it's a good representation of the rest of the album. Overall it's much more "brutal" and straightforward than Morinde, but the slow drony moments aren't entirely gone. In fact the part right before that song is one of those drony bits and what you're hearing is the climax.
Also, that video pretty much confirms my suspicions that the fox on Morinde's cover was 'Reinaert de vos'

Thanks for the heads-up! It's good to have an idea of what to expect, specially as I will review this one. I love their drony and hypnotic moments so I'm glad they are not completely gone.

If I had to pick one thing that I think was better in Morinde it has to be the vocals. They don't sound as filthy as on its predecessor and closer to "normal" harsh vocals.
I had a initial listen of this almost a week back and it was a little too black and very little sludge and the bass licks from the last album seemed missing. That was on shitty speakers though, so have to check this out once again but I don't think this is as heavy as their last one.
It's definitely leaning way more towards the black than to the sludge this time around. That's alright with me though, I like Alkerdeel's take on BM: raw, ferocious, but with a nice catch to it that doesn't really make it lull or just sound like one giant mess. It has a nice OSBM sound to it while also still somehow sounding unquestionably modern
---- I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.
Pretty good in the end. Turned out not to be a million miles away from BaN's Liber records (the first in particular): primitive, brutal but modern black metal, but with some sludge and punk twists.
The first song might have become my favorite of theirs. Especially live it is the best thing I've ever seen them play. The first ten minutes are intense as fuck. When I last saw them they played my three favorite tracks (Du Levande, Dyodyo Asema, and Regardez Ses Yeux) all in one night. Not to mention it was a free gig. Quite the gig indeed.
"Gråt Deleenaf" is an excellent song. Otherwise, I've never heard anything from Alkerdeel that stood out to me particularly, though I'd consider returning to this. I probably prefer it to Morinde and Dyodyo Asema.
Even here, with the less sludgy, less heavy and less bassier approach they still have my favorite sound in metal atm. Sad that it is not much intense or maniacal in scope as its predecessor. Still a friggin' good album. The title track is my real favorite here.
