The album that would have made Mastodon, if had followed being Mastodon

And the album that SHOULD have made Opeth, if had followed being Opeth...:-)

I think the debut juuust pips it to the post, just because the latter half of this album isn't up to the phenomenal quality of the first album and first half of this one (it's still very good)!

Really like this album, they have clearly improved with this second album imo. Definitely worth a listen!

Amazing album. I also saw them play live, and they were awesome!
If someone more popular, like Mastodon, released something like this, everyone would be going nuts about how it'd be their greatest work to date.

Even better than their first! Absolutely awesome! And I agree with the comparisons with (or 'to'?, fock my english...) Opeth and Mastodon. This is brlliant.

I bought the vinyl on a whim (and after a quick search here on the MS community).
I love it. It contains all the things I loved about Mastodon like the meaty riffing and the slightly progressive (but still very musical) guitar solos, but with less of the sludge.
Great, great album with great replayability.

It's been years since I've listened to Anciients, but I put this down to revisit after seeing your comment- it's a really tasty album throughout, I'd almost forgotten how strong it is. No idea if the band is still active as I haven't heard any murmurs of a new album but would be great to have more from them considering how good their first 2 albums were, particularly this one
