The long-awaited and highly anticipated release of the 18th Judas Priest full-length album comes in the shadow of the sad discovery regarding Glenn Tipton's health condition. This is the bad news. The good news is that Firepower is a very successful attempt by the Metal Gods to revisit their past decades of glory with a modern sound.

First spin today. Hhhm, will probably be the last one. Lower 7 for me.
I mean, obviously not a bad album. Consistent, good production. And way better than their previous two.
A bit too long maybe.
Generic? Of course, per definition.
I dont know, I hail Priest for Painkiller, Sad wings, Stained class, Defenders, and Screaming.
But thats it. And it seems it will be limited to that forever.
Just one of bands that will probably never do it again for me.
That said, highlights... hard to pick, maybe Rising from ruins, Traitors Gate. Not much more.
Certainly not Flame thrower or No surrender.

I feel like it's best of their albums and it should be called "Judas Priest". 50 years in one record. Fresh, fast, heavy, epic

This was very unexpected. Old bands like these often sound tired, there's no incling of tired here!

This album is good, better than most of the previous JP realeases in last the 20 last years but damn, please calm down everybody! If we take LPs after Painkiller(1990), there's only Angel Of Retribution which is plenty good, Nostradamus was good too, but Firepower is not that better. No shadow of an amazing song, no shadow of a masterpiece like...like almost 20 or 30 songs before that release. If you'll do a top 10 or 20 for Judas songs, could you put one of Firepower ? Come on.

Arguing like this will make it impossible for bands who already had aboud 10-20 really good songs to do a record you appreciate. You are right though: The hype is bigger than the actual album, which is not bad, but no masterpiece either. Still some decent songs like rising from ruins. However some of the songs just sounds like fillers to me.

Finally, I got to around and on my very first listen - it totally blew me away. A well constructed, dynamic and superbly produced record by granduncles who lavishes us with a pure heavy metal sound. I immensely enjoyed.

Now were talking, this is the record that Priest should have released when Halford came back. Good solid riffing and driving songs that keeps up the momentum for the hour of playtime. Halford sounds great and the production is decent. Maybe there's a couple of tracks too much and there's none real killer songs to give the album a extra push but overall a solid effort.

It's almost like Halford changed Judas Priest to how his Solo stuff sounds, following in a similar style to Resurrection & Crucible with just a touch of actual JP. They should stick to this sound, or get heavier like Painkiller or Jugulator. And having Andy Sneap as the producer is perfect. He's a metal legend 🤘

(IDK the english version of this saying)
edit : it would be "there's life in the old dog yet" ( still the persian version is more beautiful )
this album is amazing ... their best since Painkiller

Don't forget Rising from Ruins (super epic), Lone Wolf (catchy), and Spectre (super heavy and catchy)!
I admittedly had trouble getting into this album at first. But now I realize that almost every song is amazing! This album is the most ferocious Priest have been since Painkiller... and to think Halford is pushing 70 - he's simply the metal god!

What a comeback! The first half is stronger than the second, but this is definitely in my top 3 favourite Priest albums.

This was Judas Priest's best since Painkiller I would say, it was definitely a great return to their old true form, there are some real modern Priest classics here too like "Traitors Gate", "No Surrender" and "Rising From Ruins".

Heavy metal is not my favourite sub-genre. I lean towards extreme metal. Firepower is a solid release but nothing more imo. It is overrated here. 8.5 stars average rating just because of the cult status of Judas Priest and their legacy. Musically they bring same old formula to the table...nothing new. They do not need to reinvent and experiment at their age, however if they don`t i expect top notch stuff and not riffs I heard a thousand times & rather bland choruses. this is not their magnum opus....not even close. 7.5 out of 10.
