Early in a genre's existence, bands will race each other to push the boundaries and take things to the extremes; ultimately, as the end of the road for a genre comes into sight, bands will change lanes and look for an off-ramp, ending up having a loose connection to the rat race they once took to heart. Carnifex saw this event horizon and took a sharp turn down the symphonic route, with World War X being the latest installment in this change of direction.

First single.
Quite surprisingly, I don't even mind the guest appearance of Arch Enemy's Alissa "Smurfette" White-Gluz .
She does no real harm.

It leaked more than a week ago so that I had time to listen to it a couple of times. Power and riffs are here yet I find that this album is not as inspired as Slow Death. For instance atm I cannot tell about any significant song.

As I am their big fan, especially after 'Slow Death' this one is pretty much meh. There's nothing special about this one, no memorable songs and melodies. After a couple of shots I still can't remember any of tracks. Well, it's really sad.

Fully agreed! Even though "World War X" and "No Light Shall Save Us" do sound better than the rest there is no way this album stands on equal feet with SlowDeath!
